OhCanada-ParticipantAn article on realgm via new york times says the Knicks will not be running the seven seconds or less offense anymore. What does everyone make of this? Dantoni is never quoted saying the exact words "we willl not run the ssol"
With the Knicks personnel no longer ideally suited for Mike D’Antonio’s ‘Seven Seconds or Less’ system, he is adjusting his playbook.
“Probably,” D’Antoni said Thursday when asked if this is the biggest adjustment he has had to make as a head coach since 2004. “Really, there’s all kinds of different ways you can play it, and we’re going to try to maximize just what the players do.”
Carmelo Anthony’s skills are perhaps an antithesis to D’Antoni’s ball-and-player movement philosophy.
“We’re always going to be a little bit of an iso, one-on-one kind of a team, which, to be honest with you, is pretty good,” D’Antoni said.
While D’Antoni is willing to adapt, he doesn’t want to abandon his identity.
“I think we’ll meet some place halfway in between,” he said Thursday, “because we don’t want to lose what Melo and those guys do the best. A lot of it is going one-on-one. They’re the best in the league at it."
Anthony spent several summers with D’Antoni on the United States national team, which essentially ran D’Antoni’s system.
“It’s kind of hard to double-team guys in this offensive set that we run,” Anthony said. “I like it, and it’s only going to get better.”
D’Antoni is simply being pragmatic with his offensive adjustments.
“I think we’ll all make adjustments and we’ll all make sacrifices,” D’Antoni said, “and the end product should be: This is the best we can play. Whatever that is, we’ll do.”

esperanzafleet69Participantim sure theyll still be one of those teams that has most possessions per game.. probably just slowing it down a little to include some defense…

The lake show2Great idea considering there personel. They still will be able to get out and run from time to time but the players they have now are better suited for a half court game.
Another thing is why do people keep saying they need a PG after Billups contract is up. Billups should still be very effective since Point guards can play longer at a higher level then most other positions when they get up there in age

I’m sure the Knicks would love to hold onto Billups after next season when his contract is set to expire… however, if the Knicks chase down a 3rd max contract player (this will require the Knicks to renounce their own free agents) how will they be able to resign Billups? Billups will still likely command between 7-8 million a season on the free agent market but would he be willing to sign for the Knicks midlevel in the summer of 2012? Let’s not discount the type of growth that should be expected out of Douglas next season aswell. Perhaps the midlevel would be better served on acquiring a bigman? Its important to note that the Knicks won’t be using their midlevel this offseason because it will remove their cap space for the summer of 2012, unless its for a one year rental.

The lake show2Every where i have read theres a slim to none chance that they can sign a third max guys, anyway they dont even need a third max guy they just need a defensive center. Keep Billups who is clutch as well as being a good defender, you have fields who will be even better and you have amare,Melo. That leaves enough money to sign other players that fit the puzzle. Its not " sign a max third guy or bust"
