I think the worst part about negs on this site is that trades get put down rather than worked out (yes I know the majority of people will neg me I really don’t care just please try to work with me as a hopeful Nets fan and because playing GM is fun) so lets if we can take an abstract concept and work out a trade together. It’s far fetched but if you guys are willing to work with me I bet we could figure out a scenario. Here’s the basis of the trade.

    *[Melo goes to the Nets]*

So how do you work that out? A lot has to happen but in theory why wouldn’t Melo want to play in his home town with Lionel Hollins at coach and Lopez healthy (even though I know there are injury concerns with him and Williams). RealGM posted about how the Clips and Nets could be working out a trade for Pierce. So could we base a trade around this?

    Melo –> Nets

Pierce | Garnett (Retiring) –> Clippers

Granger | Picks | Young Talent | Expiring Contracts –> Knicks

Again farfetched and takes a lot of sign and trades but can we make it work? Let me know.

Not a chance.  Not trying to be negative, I think we all like to play GM, but this is crazy.  The only way is if you trade Lopez, Plumlee and Teletovic and I still don’t think that gets it done.  You can’t trade any first round picks until like 2021!!!  Also if you trade Lopez, why would Melo want to play for the Nets?  Lopez is their best young player.  As a Nets fan you have to understand the only players you’ll be able to get is players other teams really don’t want.  You might be able to Amare or JR Smith from the Knicks, but not Melo.  They won’t help you get their franchise player.

The way I see it, the Knicks would only do a sign and trade with a team that has the ability to sign Melo think Rockets, Bulls and Clippers.  Those teams could shed assets and create enough room to sign Melo.  Now if Melo tells Knicks he’s leaving, I’m sure they would rather do a sign and trade and get something for him, rather then get nothing for him.  Houston, Chicago, and LA would also rather do a sign and trade, thus allowing them to keep more assets.

I’m not negging you, but the idea that Carmello could end up in Brooklynn is highly unlikely. The only possible way Carmello could end up in Brooklynn would be a sign and trade after he accpeted a max deal from the Knicks. Then the Knicks could trade him to the Nets for a contract of roughly equal value to his for the 2014-15 season.

If you want to play fantasy GM, the Knicks would give him a 5 year 129 million dollar deal or roughly 26 mil per then trade him to Brooklynn. Take the players of your choice whose salaries are roughly equal to Mello’s deal for  2014-15 and there’s your dream come true. For example, the Knicks could take back Joe Johnson (23 mil) and Kirelenko (3 mil) and you have Caremllo back to Brooklynn!

Will that happen?  I would probably have to make the Knicks roster before that type of trade would occur.  The deal would have nothing to do with Paul Pierce who’s an unrestricted free agent. Because the Clippers are over the cap for next year, the same logic in matching Piece’s new salary in a sign and trade from the Nets to the Clippers applies.  The only reason the Nets can re-sign Pierce then keep or trade him is because they have his Bird rights.

    Hope that helps.

Under the new CBA, Melo could only get a 4 year deal in a sign and trade.  The only way he gets the 5 year max deal and gets traded is if they wait till like mid season.  Your thinking about sign and trades under the old CBA, where the Knicks could give him his bigger deal and then trade him.  You can’t do that anymore.  He can’t get more in a sign and trade then he can get on the open market, something like 4 years 90 million. Hence Anthony has about 40 million reasons to remain with the Knicks!

I would want some type of Star or potenial Star if im sending Melo to a team in my division . Would the Nets be interested in trading Brook Lopez? If im Phil i need something to build off , Granger and just some prospect with late round picks arent enuff for me and i believe Granger is a free agent so idk.
