This year is a truly great year in terms of rebounding records in the NCAA.

Last night the rarely talked about draft prospect Shawn Long passed Nick Fazekas, Sheldon Williams and Tim Duncan in all-time NCAA rebounds. He is currently sixth with 1264 rebounds and 54 rebounds behind number 2 of all time Damion James. Averaging 12.7 rpg Shawn will probably pass James in the next 5 games. He has very little chance of catching Kenneth Faried (crazy 1673), who is ahead by 400 rebounds, but he can cement his place as the second all-time NCAA rebounder for years to come.

Meanwhile, Joel Bolomboy has 1163 career rebounds and is averaging 13.3 a game. There is actually a possibility that, if he keeps his rebounding numbers up, he can also pass Damion James or at least easily end up in the top 5.

Egidijus Mockevicius is not far behind, he has 70 less rebounds than Bolomboy but is averaging a crazy 14.1 rebounds and will probably crack the top 10.

Someone has entered the top 10 in career rebounds just twice in the last 5 years (Kazemi in 2013, Faried in 2011) so I think it is pretty amazing that in 2016 we may potentially see 3 players enter the top 10 with Shawn Long and Bolomboy maybe becoming the 2nd and 3rd rebounders of all time. I just thought some people may not be aware some history is being made and would find this interesting.

On a side note, may we discuss these guys as prospects? Do you think all three will be drafted? I haven’t watched much of either of the prospect so it’s hard for me to judge. Shawn Long seems like he has really improved this year and is a centre around 6’11” 250 lbs that has some range and is a very good rebounder. Is he a mid-second rounder? Bolomboy seems to be rated pretty high but nobody is talking about Mockevicius.

Its funny that you mention Arsalan Kazemi, but that’s exactly who Mockevicius reminds me of.  Great college player and he’ll make a nice living playing overseas, but he’s not a pro.

Long is older (he’ll be a 24-year-old rookie) and he’s undersized (probably in the 6’8" range), but he’s shown the ability to knock down the outside shot.  I think he’s a second round pick with a chance to hang around.

I love Bolomboy, I think he’s one of the more underrated players in the draft.  Solid all-around game and rebounding is a trait that tends to translate.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up in the late first round.
