Here is a breakdown of day 5 of the NBA Summer League.

    http://www.beforethescore.com/nba-summer-league-2014.html

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – For the fourth game in a row Pope has been hands down the best player on the court. As of now he is a lock for the Summer League MVP and it’s not really close. Today Pope put on his best Swaggy P impersonation by scoring 26 points on 22 shots. I am more impressed with his rebounding numbers this summer than his scoring. His rebounding this summer is as follows in order of game one til today 4 rebounds, 12 rebounds, 7 rebounds, 9 rebounds.

We all know Caldwell Pope can shoot but the rebounding is what stands out. KCP will average around 10 points this season maybe a little more but will find minutes from SVG if he can keep rebounding and playing defense. Anyone that thinks KCP will average close to 20 points due to his summer league performance is a fool. He is averaging so many points because he is getting a ton of shots. In the regular season you can cut his shots in half which will basically cut his 27ppg average to 13.5 ppg, then you factor in a higher level of competition and subtract 3 points that gives him 10.5 ppg which is realistic.

Marcus Smart – Smart has attempted 36 shots in summer league so far and has made 9 of them. He is going to struggle all season on offense. Luckily he is a pitbull on defense and we are confident his shot will improve. Smart will find minutes this season due to defense and as long as he isn’t to much of a burden on offense he should average around 20-25 mpg. From a fantasy perspective Marcus Smart is not useful this season in any shallow league. In a dynasty league he will be a must own player. Today Smart had 14 points, 6 ast, 2 stls, and 5 rebs. He did have a careless 4 turnovers from forcing the ball.

Cory Jefferson –  Mr. Irrelevant (He was the last pick in the Draft) appears to be Mr. Consistency. Mr. Irrelevant in 2012 was Robert Sacre. Mr. Irrelevant in 2011 was Isaiah Thomas. Obviously Thomas is a gem in round 2 and Sacre is on an NBA roster which is all you can really ask for from the last pick of the Draft. Jefferson is in line to join those two players as the last pick of the draft to stick in the NBA. Jefferson 14 points, 8 reb, 2 stls, 2 blks, on 5-7 shooting with 6 fouls. The fouls will be his issue all season but overall he has an NBA skill set that will keep him in the league. He will be more Robert Sacre than IT2 but with the last pick in the draft it’s hard to complain.
