NBA MVP: Race to the Final Five

With tonight being the last slate of games before All Star Weekend, I looked up the top MVP front runners.

Using Yahoo fantasy basketball fan points adjusted for winning percentage here are the top 5 guys. Still have tonight left, and the last spot is between two players.

Oh, I will also give the All Star Game MVP 50 extra points. Could add it to the final totals NOW or in any given week until the end of the season. Players on the winning team will also have 10 extra points.

From the final 5, I will eliminate 1 candidate per week, until we get down to 2. From there until the end of the regular season will determine the NBA's MVP.

Top Five

1. Giannis 2240.96

2. Durant 1941.01

3. Harden 1862.93

4. Jokic 1827.31

5. Paul George 1822.51

Just behind him is Joel Embiid with 1815.49.

If Embiid is on the winning All Star team and PG13 is on the losing team then Embiid gets in.

Let's see what happens!

So, 5 of these 6 guys will basically be my All NBA 1st team.

I might also do the Rookie of the Year the same way. Assuming Luka, Ayton, and Trae Young are locks. The other two guys, who knows...

That might be fun too.

I think it is between Harden

I think it is between Harden and Giannis. Depends if you want to give it to the best player season or the best player on the best team.

Honestly I don't see how

Honestly I don't see how anyone could vote for Harden over Giannis.

1. Giannis is a legit contender for both MVP and DPY -- Harden is a decent defender when he wants to be, but Harden's edge over Giannis as a scorer is insignificant compared to Giannis' total superiority as a defender.

2. Houston is currently 5th in the West and very unlikely to finish higher than 4th. MVP used to go to the best player on the best team, and only if there was some question as to the best team, or the best team's best player, would the award drop down to a 4th or 5th place team. Well, there's no doubt that Warriors, Nuggets, Thunder, Bucks and Raptors are better than Rockets, and there's no doubt that Durant, Jokic, George, Giannis and Leonard are the best players on their teams. That makes Harden 6th in MVP race as far as I'm concerned. The massive numbers are a freak show, largely the result of CP3 and Capela' injuries, the Rockets total lack of a bench, and D'Antoni's inability to build a team that's more than the sum of its parts.

1. Giannis 2.Harden 3.PG

1. Giannis 2.Harden 3.PG 4.Jokic 5.Curry That's my top 5 in order at the moment, and I don't think anyone else can win, which is a big call with Kawhi, LeBron, KD, Russ and Embiid all having great seasons, then there's still guys like AD, Lillard, Kemba and Kyrie out there. Really high level play from the top 5, historical seasons.

For the MVP, Harden has the

For the MVP, Harden has the highest raw total of stats/production, but adjusted for wins Giannis beats him out.

As of now, the Bucks are on a 60 win pace. The Rockets might not get to 50 wins. If this holds up then I think Giannis gets it (his team's wins put him over the top).

If the Houston Rockets can get to 50 wins it's gonna be hard for Harden to lose.

Embiid needs the All Star

Embiid needs the All Star Game MVP to get into the top 5.

Westbrook had a MONSTER game last night, and I think he is technically still in the race, too, although winning the game would have helped.

Top 5 rookie of the year candidates (excluding Ayton who's team is ABYSMAL): Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Trae Young, Jaren Jackson, Jr., and Marvin Bagley III.

Rookies on the winning team in tonight's Rising Stars Challenge will get 10 points. If any of these rookies gets the MVP award then he will get ANOTHER 50 points. These bonus points can be used any time between now and the end of the regular season.

Hmm, I might do a PLAYOFF MVP too.

Take the top 5 players going into the Finals, then take the winner of those 5 after the Finals.

I respect Everyone's opinion but for MVP guy must do it at Both

Ends & at a Crazy high level -

1. Greek Freak - what can U say Bucks are the Only team in the Top 5 in Efficiency on Both Off & Def & I know Middleton made the All Star team but Giannis is a One man Band - what this kid is doing in Ridiculous!

2. PG13 --- WOW!!! PG13's efficiency on Off is absolutely Crazy! His step back 3 is SO good he literally needs No room b/c at 6'9'' he just shoots over most perimeter Defenders & on Def George has been remarkable - there is No player w/ a greater Points differential when he's On the court compared w/ Off -- OKC is +11 With PG13 & -11 W/O him - that's a +22 Differential - No one else is close & George's advance metrics are Nutz

3. Embiid - Phila has NO guards - what Embiid does on Defense, the ground he covers for a man 7'2'' 280+ Lbs is just Insane! Phila's perimeter Def is a turnstile & Embiid is forced to cover Both players on the P&R every single time down court! And the Advanced Stats on Embiid's Def & overall Value are Crazy & he's still so raw Offensively w/ room to improve - Scary. When Embiid is On the court Phila has the Metrics of a Title contender - when he's off a Low playoff seed

I have Curry, Durant, Harden right behind these 3 & I know Harden will be higher & I respect everyone's opinion who have Harden 1st or 2nd --- just my personal opinion & GD we have some Exciting young Super Talent in the NBA
