I am not talking about upside but strictly their games.   6-7, 6-8 wing players with the smoothest of game.  Good shooters and ball handlers, good IQ.  Only thing is Barnes not as strong at this stage, though I think Barnes upside may be greater.  Mercer had a good career albeit short.

wow, why no love on the points…you guys must not have seen a lot of Mercer and Barnes…their games are nearly identical.  Almost clones to me.  Both are more athletic than Pierce and I think both are more fluid than Deng.

I honestly think Barnes and others made a mistake by not entering the draft…If he is closer in comparison to Deng or Merger than to Gay or Pierce he won’t crack the top 5, he was a lock to be a top 3 pick this year…

We are not talking about the same Ron Mercer then….

The Mercer I am speaking of was rated consistently as the number 2 high school prospect coming out his senior year and no less than 3rd behind only Garnett and Marbury.  Gibbons rated Mercer as the top prep player ahead of Garnett and Marbury.  Had it not have been for Garnett, he would have been the consensus top high school prospect as a senior.  As highly regarded as UNC’s savior and 1st pre-season Freshman All America Barnes?…no, but very highly regarded none the less and was drafted # 6 in the 97 draft and would have been higher had Pitino not try to scare teams away from him just so Boston could nab him.  Once again, I am strictly comparing their style of play, not the upside.  Mercer was a very good in the NBA who maybe lacked the drive to have a longer career.

Harrison Barnes could very well be a 1st option on a good team, Mercer was always a second or third option guy…

Barnes is ice cold clutch similar to Jordan/Kobe.  Thats what maybe makes him a 1st option type guy.  I think his upside is higher than Deng though…but just like Deng early in his career, Barnes has to get stronger.

I think Barnes can develop into a Paul Pirece type player. They both can shoot, drive, very crafty, rebound, assist and play defense hard work ethic. Both pierce and barnes are clutch shooters. harrison has a good shot at developing into that kind of players.

Barnes is a dark skin black whilst Ron Mercer is a light skin black therefore the comparison is not accurate

I like the comparison, but I am a Ron Mercer fan. He was very solid and def had the potential to be great. Took Kentucky to championship game with DA (derek anderson) out for the year and should have beat az..
Man had mad game and even avg quite a bit a couple of seasons in nba… think he might have led the bulls in scoring one year when they were crap…
and in a side note in cassidys six minutes there is a line by lil wayne “if theres any beef i come ron like mercer” Dope

Mercer was a beast in college but it never fully translated into the NBA.  Also I think Barnes is more athletic froma vertical and length stand point.

I remember not to long ago being compared to Luol Deng was not a compliment and now it is.  Funny how stuff changes like that.
