After hearing about how the Lakers need to trade for Dwight Howard, I felt I was obligated to list off- the five places I think he will land.

    1. Oklahoma City– The reasons I think the Thunder are in the running for Howard are pretty stacked. Not only do they have an in-house superstar in Kevin Durant and solid building blocks in Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka etc., they have a copious amount of cap room that nobody seems to talk about. Also, I think they had a few trade assets in tow (Kendrick Perkins, Eric Maynor, Thabo Sefalosha, Ibaka) to persuade Orlando in relinguishing Howard without getting nothing in return.
    2. Atlanta– The "hometown" favorite. Although they just battled for the second time in as many postseasons, there shouldn’t be a soul in Atlanta that wouldn’t want Howard to come back home and play for the Hawks. The one major roadblock would be cap room, as the Hawks are tied up in contracts with Josh Smith ($11.7 million) and Joe Johnson ($16.3 million) pulling in some major dough. A nucleus of Howard, Al Horford, Johnson/Smith, Jeff Teague, and Kirk Hinrich/Marvin Williams/Jamal Crawford could make some deep playoff runs for years to come.
    3. Boston– A semi-sexy pick. Two things that are working in favor of Boston is a relatively young nucleus of Rondo/Davis/Green and the amount of money that is due to free up soon with expiring contracts of Garnett, Pierce, and a few other vets. A few things that can hurt the Celtics is Doc Rivers’ uncertain future, a lack of young depth, and thin trade assets. Either way, a Howard-Boston connection would be momentous.
    4. Chicago– Could be higher just for Derrick Rose alone, but what they can lose knocks them down the list. Any Orlando-Chicago trade would almost certainly include either Joakim Noah or Luol Deng, which could be a snag for the Bulls. A Rose/Howard nucleus can win titles for years, depending on how the front office compliment them.
    5. LA Lakers– Yes, everyone has said this destination all along, but seriously, the Lakers will be involved in any Howard trade talk. But who would they offer? Andrew Bynum with his WrestleMania elbows and papier-mache knees? Pau Gasol and his Charmin demeanor? Lamar Odom-Kardashian? The Lakers are in desperate need of some fresh blood, but do they have the assets to acquire Dwight Howard? Only time will tell.

Other teams I thought of including, but ultimately passed on: New York, Philadelphia, Portland, and Dallas. But here’s a scary case scenario for you to chew on….The Miami Heat!
