Watching some highlights from Magic Johnson and Jason Williams.

Up until last week I would have said it’s still Manu. He was nutmegging people until the end.

I don’t know if anyone in today’s game has the court vision and ability to anticipate where teammates are going to be a second from now that guys like Magic, Bird, Nash, Manu had. Rondo maybe comes the closest.

Also, not that you were necessarily comparing Magic aned Jason Williams, but when I think of Williams I remember him running the break, defenders back on their heels, and White Chocolate putting a lot of razzle dazzle on a pass while flying down an open court.

Magic could do that, but he could also make jaw-dropping passes in the halfcourt, with a defender all over him and the target of his pass being double-teamed. Maybe that’s the difference between a great passer and a flashy passer?

I agree on Rondo. Ben Simmons will be up there soon too.

The most spectacular and best overall passer in the league is still Lebron imo. The way he is able to see openings in the defense and thread the needle (both in the halfcourt and transition) is uncanny. Its always possibly been his best and most underrated skill.

Lebron,Rondo,CP3 & Lonzo  come to mind.Rubio made some Unbelievable flashy passes when he was in Europe. That’s what help to make him a hot prospect. He Doesn’t showcase it as much now.

Rondo, Teodosic, Bron, CP3, Simmons. They all pass you open.

Kevin love can throw the ball 90 ft on a dime. He was famous for this in high school. it’s a disappointment we don’t get to see it more.

Great era for passing. There have been periods with better overall passers – e g. 80s with Magic, Larry Bird, Stockton, the 00s with Nash, those Spurs, Pistons and Kings teams.. but right now, there’s two elite passing teams in Houston and Golden State, Boston is pretty good too, plus a lot of above average individuals e.g. LeBron, Teodosic, Simmons, Jokic, Rubio, Paul, Harden,  Rondo, Westbrook, Curry, Draymond..

     Me.

Not that I am even good or competent — just spectacular.

Ben Simmons for me. His vision and flair for passing is amazing. I remember seeing up close in Australia when LSU toured here…. and so many of his passes were lost on his team mates because he was two steps ahead of every play. They were perfect, creative, spectacular passes that would have given his team mates open baskets, but they just weren’t ready for them yet in preseason.

Others that are at the top of the list in terms of spectacular passing – Rondo, Lonzo, LeBron, Jokic, Teodosic all make spectacular passes that draw oohs and aahs from the crowd. As mentioned, Kevin Love’s full court touchdown passes are amazing too!

CP3, Draymond, Harden (as much as I hate to admit it), Steph, Wall, and Lowry make really smart, effective passes… just not quite as flashy/spectacular as the group above.
