Idk if y’all have heard but deadspin.com and twitter is buzzing about mike rice being hired to coach a 12yr old girls AAU team. Now I know their are plenty of funny jokes and things that can be said but how do y’all really feel about this? As a parent I’m not letting him near my kid.

So you are in the same camp as Chipper Jones huh? That is child abuse man, and ineffective. Positive reinforcement is a much better approach to get more out of your players.

Rice has been coaching this team and it is actually a team that includes his daughter. It’s not a new coaching gig and I would imagine he treats these 12 year old girls a little different. Not defending his Rutgers behavior but allow him to live his life. He did some stupid stuff…he rightfully lost his job over it.

Don’t go around finding where he works and saying he can’t do this because of what he did before.

We all have things we have done where we don’t want to constantly relive our mistakes or not be allowed to move beyond them. Maybe coaching this 12 year old group of girls helps him remember that coaching is teaching and there is no place for what he did before?

I hope he grows from all of this adversity.
