Going to the Raptors for Valanciunas, CJ Miles, Delon Wright, and a future 2nd round pick.

Good for both teams. Valanciunas is only 26. If they play him as many minutes as they play Gasol he will be MIP next year. Jackson and Valanciunas longterm makes a good bigman duo that can be effective in todays NBA.

And Indiana is still the 3-seed. Both Boston and Philadelphia lay enough eggs to where they still might face each other in round one.

Gasol is a perfect fit on the Raptors. They’re going to be tough to beat!

Gasol will give Embiid a tougher look in the post should they meet in the playoffs. Ibaka as a backup 5 is nasty for the rest of the East. And his passing will complement Toronto’s plethera of shooters in the halfcourt.

Also it looks like Jonas will get his first real shot at 30 mpg in Memphis, something i’ve been interested to see for some time. Delon Wright is having a bit of a down year…. but he should be an impact player if his role increases.

For Memphis’ sake I was kind of hoping Gasol would go to Charlotte….. as they would have likely received one of either Monk or Bridges in return. Maybe that’s why the deal didn’t go through, and Charlotte didn’t want to give up on either of those young guys yet. This is an interesting deal.

“Gasol will give Embiid a tougher look”

See I dont know about that. Last time Embiid and Valanciunas met Valanciunas had 26 points in 18 minutes. Valanciunas routinely domninates big centers like Drummond, Whiteside, Gobert and Embiid. Its the mobile bigs he has trouble with like Lopez, Jokic, Horford and Vucevic. Gasol should be much better in those situations but Im not too sure you can have anyone play that first group of C’s as well as Valanciunas did.

Gasol, Mirotic, Valanciunas, Stauskas, Mykhailiuk, Boban… more Euros flying around than at a bachelor party in Amsterdam.

You have to wonder how big of a role gasol will play in Toronto. They’ve had success all year with Ibaka as a small ball 5. Do they go away with that now with gasol on board or do they use him as a backup in a similar role to valunciunas. Will be interesting to see.

If anything, he’s a more versatile player than jv with his ability to spread the floor and facilitate. The question is whether he can still be effective enough on defense to play a major role in playoffs, especially against teams that go five out and spread the floor. Not sure but it’s probably worth the gamble for the raptors. They really didn’t give up much to get him, although he will almost certainly opt in for next year.

A second round pick? Bradley’s deal is only partially guranteed next year. Could be used to help teams clear cap space and get them a first round pick.

Marc Gasol deserves a shot on a contender so good luck to him. Jonas may well opt in for next season so Memphis have got a guy 7 years younger.

Gasol gives the Raptors some nice options and the extra size at 5 and Marc’s passing and shooting gives them an extra dimension on the floor.
