OneBigBucketHeadParticipantBeen watching more NBA games lately and seeing how Josh McRoberts can Fly!!! Watching the Pacers game and he’s had three AWESOME dunks! Would much rather watch him than Javalon Skin n’ Bones McGee.

B FreeParticipantYea he needed to stay in school because he has the athleticism and size but no moves or polish Duke would have given him that.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI won’t say I’d rather see him more than McGee (who knows what McGee might pull out lol), but he’s a very good dunker and athlete.

McDunkinToo bad Chris Anderson and his runny nose messed up Joshs chances of getting invited to a dunk contest for a while

omphalosParticipantYeah McRoberts has Griffin-like hops and athleticism, but not the requisite skill to utilize it properly. Bit of a shame, would have been fun watching those two duke it out if McRoberts’ game was more polished.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’m coo with McRoberts and grew up competing against him during elementary, aau and high school, and I always thought he’d be better than what he is now.
I mean, the dude was GOOD growing up, but it was like he just stopped getting better after he left Carmel HS and went to Duke.

Im Your FatherParticipantI feel like McRoberts is one of the more underrated Duke players. As I’ve said numerous times on this board, he didn’t have a bad career at Duke at all. He averaged 9 and 7 as a freshman and then 13ppg 8rpg 3.5 apg 2.5bpg and 1.2spg as a sophomore.
McRoberts’s problem was that he is not the type of player that can be your number one option on offense. He does a lot of different things really well, but he doesn’t really have the scoring mentality. His 2nd year in Durham, he had no choice really but to be thrust into that role, and he didn’t respond well. There has been talk that he was bad in the locker room, but I’m sure it was frustrating being the best player on a very mediocre Duke team, not to mention his parents were going through a divorce at the time.
But I’m not really sure why people are saying he isn’t skilled. Josh was very skilled at Duke, when Greg Paulus was injured, he actually ran the point for a game or two. He was an excellent passer and ball handler and a very good defender, who could take people off the dribble and rise up for spectacular dunks. He showed signs of a post-up game and had one or two moves that he would use occasionally(but not often enough).
I’m not a scout, but my guess as to why he fell in the draft was that he didn’t show the ability to carry a team and be the number one scoring option at Duke. Which is true, but he simply isn’t that kind of player. He’s a jack of all trades type of guy, not a scorer.
