Mavericks were 2-2 to start the season without Barnes averaging 114.8 ppg

Since his return, they’re 1-6 averaging 108.4 ppg

    He’s shooting 36% fg and 32% from 3. PER of 8.99

He’s taking shots from Doncic, Smith, Matthews, Finney-Smith (51/42/80 shooting)

Is he going to come out of this slump?

Well, the Mavs were 2-2 without him against whom?
2 home wins against Bulls & Wolves (without Butler)
2 away loses against Suns and Hawks , the later we had huge lead in the game and we wasted it.
Basically we are bad basketball team, badly built too. The early results aren’t because Barnes wasn’t playing.

Now, regarding his play, it is too early in the season but most Mavs fans are frustrated by him, the truth is he is struggling to find his niche after being removed from being first option all the way down to compete with Wes on who is 3rd option after Luka and DSJ. Sure he is used to that with GSW, but they were a team with totally different dynamic and it was easier for him, and tbf he was never that great there either,

We will roll the season with him most likely and hope he fit there as 3rd option behind the young players and evaluate after the season is over.

Btw, I would like to see Finney-Smith being back as a starter, he is great 3& D type of player

Too many guys there that need the ball. And they seem to be playing a lot of my turn, your turn basketball. Those days in the league are over, that’s a really tough way to try to win games.

I like some of Dallas players, Barnes, Matthews, Smith, etc.,  but the pieces just don’t really fit. The future there is Doncic, and a couple years from now, he is going to be playing with the ball in his hands a lot. They probably need to figure out who is going to be a good fit with him.

Despite the rebound drama, Doncic and Jordan play really well together, especially in the high pick and roll. And I like Finney-Smith and Kleber. Everybody else, I think the jury is out on whether or not they’re still in Dallas in a year or two.

The Mavs are  a weirdly constructed team IMO,

Signing Barnes, this is the move that helped the GSW warriors construct their current team….Kind of Ironic that the Mavs did this move. As if they didn’t do the sign and trade their wasn’t enough cap room to get K.D…

Barnes was a re-tool move personally the Mavs were in that weird position retool to give Dirk one last run sort of phase as no big name F.A’s were coming to Dallas so this was that move.

Me personally I would trade Barnes for a 2nd/ 3rd option on another team that fits with Luka,D,.J and Smith jr(who I personally would move to a 6th man role giving him freedom and all the touches he wants)..

The Mavs best move is trade every trade every other player outside of DSJ,Luka,D.J and Dirk(loyalty and let him leave on his terms) and go full asset hunting or finding players that fit that core…

Harrison Barnes is an interesting case, he was a hugely hyped HS talent but dropped down the draft boards when he got into college, stayed another year and restored his draft position to top 10. Was taken by GSW and developed into a key starter under the Steph Curry MVP era but was then swiftly moved on when KD became available.

Any team getting a chance to add KD would likely have made this move so Barnes went from maybe being 4th string in the starting line up and 5th or 6th best player overall on a GSW team to being seen as the potentially main guy at Dallas.

I believe he is realistically a 2nd or maybe 3rd option at Dallas long term behind Luka and Dennis Smith.

Mavs need to trade him instead of letting him walk next summer. Not a good fit with adding Luka.

It will be interesting to see what Harrison does next summer he could be a FA but would he turn down opting in on $25 million plus as he might not get that in a new deal.

I think someone will offer a 3-$50/Mill  or 4/60 to 70 type deal or maybe even more..He’s opting out.
