Luke is a West coast guy who played pretty much his whole career in LA. From that perspective, the Lakers would seem to be a natural fit. However, coaching the Lakers would provide a very big challenge, especially for a rookie coach, and a lot of patience. They are more than likely in for a long rebuild unless they can pull off some free agent magic and it could be a tough spot for an organization and fan base that isn’t exactly known for its patience.

New York is probably closer to contention, than la, especially in the east, but that would be a challenge as well. Carmelo’s salary will continue to be an albatross as he ages and they don’t have a draft pick this year. Luke is close to Phil Jackson and they have a great building block in porzingis, so you would have to think he would at least give them some consideration.

Minnesota seems to be set up the best for the future right now. They have as much young  talent as any team in the league, and just need a coach that will continue to develop chemistry and bring it all together. This would seem like an ideal situation for walton if there is mutual interest. With so much youth on their roster, they may want to hire a more experienced coach though.

Couldn’t see walton really being interested in the Sacramento or Phoenix jobs unless there was no other interest.

I think ultimately where he ends up will depend on what he is looking for and how ambitious he is as far as a rebuilding project.

The Timberwolves have the most talent, but Phoenix isn’t as bad as their record suggests…they got plenty of assets, and since I’m not a fan of cold weather or living near wolves, I’d probably take the Phoenix job.

 Phoenix job could be appealing, he played at Zona, still not that far from Manhatan Bay. Booker looks like future multi time all star. Knight and Bledsoe are good guards when healthy. TJ Warren and Alex Len are quality young players. Will have a high pick to get a good prospect. The Chandler contract is really their only big problem, but it’s not like you can’t turn things around there in Phoenix, they were an ok team at the start of the season before everything for effed up. I’d clearly take the Minnesota job unless you can’t deal with the fridged weather. I actually say the Suns are a better job than Lakers and Knicks with their front office mess, Knicks are in mediocrity purgatory with Carmelo, Lakers I’m not sure how great of a trio Clarkson, Randle and Russell are, they need to hit with their draft pick (assuming they keep it)

yeah, i agree.  LA and MIN are just too young to bring in a coach in his 30s.  SAC and NY would be hard with the personalities of cousins and anthony.  i really think phoenix has a good mix of vets and young players and would be an optimal situation.

The Lakers are an obvious job given Luke played there and he would not need to uproot himself and his wife. But with Phil in NY then the Knicks could make a serious play, Luke understands Phil’s methodology and if he was the guy to turn around the Knicks he’d be a legend.

Living here in the Yay Area, don’t be surprise to see Walton hanging around the Dubs coaching staff. I rather keep on learning coaching and winning with the Dubs than coach sinking ship teams like LA, NY, MN, Sac, or Phx.

Aside from the obvious Arizona connections, The Suns have a Klay Thompson clone in Devin Booker, a Big Guy who could be an Andrew Bogut in Len and a chance to add a Top Pick this year and next…Not to mention Bledsoe and Knight who could land you a Batum type to replicate Iggy…

So they have a chance to add Brandon Ingram or Jamal Murray if they’re drafting 2nd or 3rd

Lets say they get Murray at PG, Booker as the SG, Warren is the Barnes type Sf, Len is there to become your Andrew Bogut hopefully…

Trade Bledsoe and Chandler for Batum (to be that Iggy type)  

Next, find a way to play Knight off the bench in a 6th man role
