for those who don’t know him, let me introduce you to the next european sensation: luka doncic.

since drazen petrovic died, he left a hole that no one has been able to fill.. in the last couple of decades europe has had some of his best players in history and some of them like nowitzki or gasol have even helped shape the current prototipe of PF-C player..porzingis is following the path marked by these..

but again, since "petro" died, we haven’t had a guard of his dimension..we’ve had great ones like danilovic, carlton myers, djordjevic, jasikevicius, diamantidis, spanoulis, juan carlos navarro or even tony parker whom even with his 4 rings, his 6 all-stars and his amazing career if you ask any european 90% will tell you drazen was better without doubt..truth is none of these players have been able to replace petrovic in fan’s heart..

in recent years there have been some young european guards that early in their careers have been labeled as "the next great european guard" because of their precocity: ricky rubio, mario hezonja or mykhailiuk, but even though they are very young and one of them is still in college seems obvious they can’t live with the expectations..

i know you’ve heard this before but i truly believe this time with doncic is the good one..

this kid at 17, is an absolute phenomenom, he’s been "burning" stages really fast putting incredible numbers while playing always against older players since he was a kid..

at 17, he’s now playing for arguably the best team in europe, real madrid, and he’s doing things that only a few ones have been able to do in the history at his age at this level..

as a player, he is a 6’8 PG but sooo skilled that with his size and athleticism can play the 2 and 3 position. he also has an amazing IQ, vision and passing ability. the kid is an outstanding shooter and not only that but he has cold blood and is so clutch and loves to take big shots..he’s pretty athletic as he can dunk in between the legs with ease and the only concern is his lateral quickness but i think he’ll improve that as he finish his transition from kid to man..

i hope he stayed in europe 3-4 more years to enter the nba totally ready but i guess he’ll leave in 2 years.

the kid is gonna be a top 3 in 2018 draft and he’ll get a look at nº1..he’s that special..

    remember his name: luka doncic

He must be one of the best 17 year olds to ever play the game of basketball. The guy is now starting for Real Madrid and has taken a lot of Rudy Fernandez’s minutes.

He doesn’t have the two attributes that everyone gets hyped about — crazy athleticism or crazy length. However, he is probably on the best team for him to be at this age, playing in the NBA at 17 is illegal so he is playing for the best team outside of the NBA.

If basketball wasn’t so dependent of physical attributes this guy would’ve been considered the best talent in a very long time both in Europe and America. Still, he has very good size and is strong for his age. If he keeps adding to his game, he might be the top pick even over DeAndre Ayton. Really hope he does.

Let’s be factual here, Real Madrid is nowhere near to being the best team in EuroLeague. He is not taking any nminutes from anyone on that team. He plays a bit more recently because Sergio Llull is out with an injury.

Finally, there are no starters and bench in European basketball, as has been explained here dozens of times. That’s an American basketball idea that has never been adopted in Europen basketball.

Who starts and who comes off the bench is soley based on match ups and what the coach wants in terms of lineups. Numerous EuroLeague MVPs were bench players. This is explained here over and over, and some people still can’t grasp it for some reason. No coach in Europe puts 5 designated players as "starters" in his team.

Yeah, really makes me sad seeing Hezonja who might have even bigger NBa potential than Doncic due to his athleticism sit on the bench for an absolutely directionless Magic franchise, maybe even more dysfunctional than the Kings… I remember the time 2 years ago when he dropped 8 triples on Real Madrid at the tender age of 19 and generally played out of his mind whenever the big situation and a big game came… hopefully he’s on another team soon enough. And I hope a good franchise like Dallas or Miami drafts Doncic, he doesn’t deserve to be trapped like Mario.

Don’t compare Doncic and Hezonja. Hezonja was never a good player at any time in EuroLeague. I can name many, many, many guards in Europe that are way better than he is.

Doncic is so much better than Hezonja that it’s not even funny.

He’s for sure one of the best players of all time in Europe at his age (17). But you are hugelky overrating him. He’s not in the same discussion with Petrovic, and not even do i think he can be half as good as players like prime Navarro, prime Spanoulis, and prime Jasikevicius.

He’s certainly miles better than anyone like Rubio or Hezonja that you mentioned…..

But come, get real. He’s great, but most of it is just becauyse of how good he is at his age. He’s simply a fast developer, an early bloomer, much like Rubio was, only this kid can actually shoot and score.

But he’s not magically going to be this amazing player, because he will keep getting leaps and bounds better because he’s 17. No, anyone with even basic basketball coaching background can see he’s just tremendously more phyiscally developed and matured than any other player his age, or even almost any other player that is in their early 20s.

Just to say how you compared him to some of those other European guards……

Petrovic = way better scorer, passer, and shooter

Spanoulis = light years LIGHT YEARS more athletic, faster, quicker, more agile, better jumper, etc.

Navarro = much better scorer, much, much, much better shooter

Jasikevicius = much better passer, much better creator

Parker = way faster, way, way quicker, much more athletic

He is phenoneml and then some for age 17, but he’s not going to have the same improvement other players have, because he’s already a completely matured and developed man physically.
