NCarmean18ParticipantIs anyone else as impressed as I am with the "King"? I know my vision is blurred because of his horrible display of basketball against the Mavericks in the Finals last season, but in his first 3 games this season LeBron has done nothing less than ball. He is the exact reason why the Miami Heat are 3-0, and his shot selection and decision-making has improved drastically.
So far this season he is averaging 32.7 PPG, 7.3 RPG, and 6 APG without taking a 3-Pt jump shot in his first 3 games, a shot he tended to miss a lot during last season. LeBron looks like he is out to prove to everyone he is the best player in the NBA and he has done a superb job at the start of this season.
Opinions on LeBron’s game so far?

KayjayParticipantLebron is amazing. We all know, and I’ve always been astonished how he adds something to his game every single season. With that being said, I’m going with Stephen a smith on this one. Lets not worry about what he does during the regular season. Only the post season. Because thats where it counts.
Again though, he’s still the best player in the game today. He continues to add to his repertoire each season. My biggest fear for him is he could be the modern day Wilt Chamberlain. So god damn amazing you can’t figure out why he didn’t win as many rings as some of the other all time greats.
Just my opinion.

TRC1991ParticipantWithout paying attention to LeBron’s stats, because they are not a fair acknowledgement of his impact thus far, i think the most unbelievable thing i’ve noticed about him this season is just how insanely easy the game has been coming to him. He has forced nothing, taken hardly any bad shots, has added a post game (finally), i am just hoping he finally gets a ring so people can get off of his back. He looks scary good, and scary on point at that.

NYK2010ParticipantEasily the best player in the league and distancing himself.
If he keeps playing like this he’ll win another MVP too.
He can’t become Wilt becaz there are no great teams today like in Wilt’s time.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantLebron grew up being a basketball prodigy, and things came so easily for him that he didnt think he had to continue to work to improve or add to his game..But last season’s Finals was a WAKEUP CALL for him….

mikeyvthedonParticipantI think he definitely worked his @ss off. Things definitely came easier to him than most, but you do not get to the point he has gotten to in the NBA by not working hard. He definitely has played with fire in these first few games, but I think he has worked consistently to get to the point he is at now. The Finals was a wake-up call for certain areas of his game, but he had worked dilligently on becoming the best player he possibly could be.
These first few games, he has taken a lot more on himself than he normally would. He is playing smart basketball and I think the Heat’s new offensive system is incredibly beneficial. Eric Spoelstra is taking a page out of Chip Kelly’s football playbook and running a spread offense. The point of this offense is to keep the other team off balance and kill the reaction time of an opposing defense. You are seeing a lot more transition offense and much less ISO with Wade and LeBron, it is looking much more effective.
The key to the spread is having the personnel to make it work, and I think that with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, there are not two better players to run such an offense. Norris Cole fits it like a glove as well, and Chris Bosh is definitely a great runner of the floor. Even a trimmer Udonis Haslem and an always in shape Shane Battier work really well. I think a guy like Eddy Curry might be a switch up for when they are in a half court set, but my bet is, he will either get with the program or ride the pine.
LeBron definitely looks better than ever and I love that he has taken more time to attack the basket. His posting up may not be a thing of beauty, but it is a great way to use his physical gifts to his advantage and get to the free throw line. The fact he only got to the line against Dallas 20 times combined in the Finals was pretty unacceptable and was definitely on him. I doubt we ever see that happen again. In the first three games, his ability to run the floor and attack the basket have been on full display. The chemistry he has with Dwyane Wade is real, including that beautiful pass he made when saving the ball out of bounds for an easy D-Wade fast break. I think the Heat are on a mission and that there is no better person to lead them than the best player in the world, LeBron James.

QuickPostCParticipantApple is coming out with a LeBron James iPhone. But it only vibrates because it has no rings.

NYCrealdealParticipantall about the post season with lbj…but if this is a sign of how there going to play all season, theres no hope for any other team in the L.

NJHooper95ParticipantIt would be a surprise if Lebron did not have a spectacular regular season. We all know this guy can play and play well, but we are waiting to see can he perform when the lights are the brightest. He doesnt have to be Mike, I dont think there is one player we can compare him to. He is the most physically gifted player to ever play in the NBA. I want to see if he can play his game and not listen to everybody else, and not be a clown, and just play ball when it really counts.

rileymcshea3ParticipantThe Heat are very scary and if Norris Cole can become a great player on the Heat then the Heat might just take over the league unless Kevin Durant can say something about that

TallmanNYCParticipantYes, your vision is warped by remembering that Mavs finals. 32, 7 and 6 over three games has you impressed? He has averaged 7 rebounds for his career. 6 assists is actually one less than his career average. Yes, 32 points a game is great and 5 more than his career average. But over three games you can’t get that excited about it. Also the Heat have increased their pace of play significantly from last year and higher than what Lebron ran in Cleveland. Basically all of Lebron’s per game stats should be up because there are more possessions with this higher pace of play.
Really, as people said above, this is just Lebron being Lebron. You should be impressed, because Lebron is impressive and down right scary. But you should also expect stats like that from Lebron. Yes, the post game is better, the avoidance of three point shooting is a good strategy, but it wasn’t like he has suddenly become that much more effective. You can get on Lebron for his Decision and for falling apart in the some playoff games, but you have to recognize that even with these problems that he is the best player in the game and, rings or no rings, one of the top players ever.
By the way, I got Lebron on my Fantasy Team. Got him with second pick in the draft. First guy took D. Howard. Ha!

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWOW!! Mikey V Disagreed with me..But goes and says the same thing i said but in more paragraphs…lol..
The game comes so easily for Players like Lebron, that sometimes they take shortcuts instead of going all out..And they have to be pushed,When he 1st came into the nba, they said he couldnt shot and was a poor defender..But his last year in Cleveland he increased his field goal percentage from 41% his rookie season to 50% his last year in Cleveland and became an all league defender..
A few months ago someone made a post about players with high basketball iqs, some clown said Nick Young had a better basketball then Lebron..And thats insane..The poster had Jason Kidd number 1, and i agree with that, but Lebron gives you what Kidd does and much more..Becuz unlike Kidd ,Lebron can dominate a game also with his scoring….

Mr. 19134ParticipantNow can I never hear anybody say again that Wade is better then James and I’ll be happy. Wade has never been better then James at virtually any facet of the game I have no idea why they would have to split MVP voting because it’s obvious who the best player on that team is, it’s the same player whose the best in the league also. I just don’t understand the whole Wade is better then LeBron argument.

omphalosParticipant@Mr. 19134; I take issue with you saying Lebron is better in every facet of the game than Wade, Wade is more polished offensively and a better fourth quarter performer than Lebron. There’s a reason Wade was trusted with the last shot against Charlotte instead of LBJ.
Also, people need to calm it down with Wilt comparisons, it’s been three games and they’ve played an obviously outmatched Mavericks team which is completely different from the team which won the Finals and underconditioned, a Boston team which had a rotation of Pavlovic and Marquis Daniels at small forward, and the Charlotte Bobcats. Under those circumstances, would you expect anything less? Lebron would have had those numbers for the last few seasons, nothing new in my opinion.
Yes, he seems more at peace with himself and playing smarter basketball within the team concept this season, but it’s three games. Not five, not eleven, just three games, I’m not worried (first person to recognise that last sentence gets a point haha). Averages are meaningless over such a period of time because you have aberrations like those mentioned above.
As far as being the best player in the NBA easily, I think some of you should take a long look in Durant’s direction as the season progresses. I won’t expect anyone to agree with me at this point in the season because it has only been three games, but while his skills have certainly improved, his willingness to publicly call out Westbrook and assert himself as the unquestioned leader of the Thunder tells me all I need to know about his mindset this season.
As has been said, he’s been playing in a more uptempo offense lately and Lebron has always been a beast in transition, still nothing new.
It all comes down to the post-season for Lebron, because he’s always been a regular season juggernaut. He doesn’t necessarily need to win a ring to prove he’s conquered his post-season demons, he just needs to be consistent with his ability under the stress of the playoffs.
If he can take that step I’ll accept the praise being handed to him as an all time great amongst other things, but not before, we can no longer talk about how good he’ll be, at 27 he is officially in his prime, there’s nothing left for him to do except use the skills and experience he’s acquired to earn his spot amongst the game’s greatest and to be worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Jordan. I’ll never forgive him for robbing me of the spectacle of he and Wade battling it out in their primes though.

mikeyvthedonParticipantYou said, "he didnt think he had to continue to work to improve or add to his game". I disagreed with that statement, completely. You may think that being vague and leaving things out is saying the same thing. It may indeed be, to you. But, to other people, it may not really tell anything, or be viewed as a false statement.
So, I flat out disagree that LeBron did not think he had to work to improve or add to his game. He has been getting better every year he has been in the league and you do not become the best player in basketball without working on your game. Than you go and flat out contradict your earlier statement in the second little nugget of knowledge. Maybe, just maybe, you did not get a lot across in your original response? Especially since you made it seem like he relied completely on natural ability without working or improving his game. You may not have wanted to say that, but, you did.
