butidonthavemoneyWhile you suckers continue to spoil your posts with on-topic idiocracy, No-Money can do as he pleases.
And no more jokes about Jason kidd beating his wife. It makes the topic more sad than fun.
Let’s talk about cheery things. Like bubbles and ice cream.
But you normies better stay on-topic… Or else…

mikeyvthedonParticipantThe Seventh Seal is an awesome film, I also really liked “Fanny and Alexander” and “The Virgin Spring” among others. How did you like it? I just started reading the book, and I am saying to myself I must read it before seeing the movies, but I heard the movies are awesome. Unfortunately, like they usually do, they are making an American remake to the film(s) of the Millenium trilogy. It is directed by David Fincher, of Fight Club fame amongst others, but he also is directing this new facebook movie, “The Social Network”. The previews just look so bad I want to kick the TV, with the whole “we know this, we know that, we know it’s cool”, ugh. Justin Timberlake? In a dramatic film? Why? But, I digress, I usually hate American remakes of foreign movies, just wanted to know your thoughts. Good looking out on the foreign film front though, I like that I am not the only person on this forum who digs them, not that I thought that I was, just never heard otherwise.

butidonthavemoneyI really liked it. I wanted to read the books first too, but I have a long list of books to read and it would have been forever before I got to the Millenium series. I’ll pick them up eventually. I feel you on the American remake front. "The Vanishing" really stands out to me as an American remake that did no justice to the brilliant original, even though it was made by the same director. Sometimes it works if people can put an original spin on it, like when "Seven Samurai" was remade into the Western, "The Magnificant Seven".
"The Virgin Springs" was a really good movie as well. It was really dark and provocative; typical Bergman. No Swedish movie tops "The Seventh Seal" though. One of the best movies ever made, period.

butidonthavemoneyI really liked it. I wanted to read the books first too, but I have a long list of books to read and it would have been forever before I got to the Millenium series. I’ll pick them up eventually. I feel you on the American remake front. "The Vanishing" really stands out to me as an American remake that did no justice to the brilliant original, even though it was made by the same director. mikeyvthedonParticipantKurosawa is my favorite director of all-time, and I know all about the re-makes of his movies and such. Hidden Fortress inspired Lucas to write Star Wars from the perspective of C3PO and R2D2, Fistful of Dollars was Yojimbo shot for shot (except with Cowboys instead of Samurai), Kurosawa rocked the house. Ikiru is one of my favorites, though Seven Samurai was totally epic, like 4 hours but such a great movie. Have you seen the previews for “Let Me In”? I think it will lack all of the gritty greatness of “Let the Right One In”, I am sure of that. I might still see it, but I just am guessing it will get panned, they are just not comfortable doing some things in Hollywood that make Foreign films so rad. I also love Miike movies, if you ever watch him, basically Japanese movies are of major interest to me. But I will watch movies from anywhere, as long as it is a good film, I am willing to see it. Heck, even if it is not, I do not mind, just as long as it is not the same garbage over and over that they seem to churn out in Hollywood.
Oh, and for my draft comment, you guys never talk about the draft! Most posts on here are put together through old sugar packets, but honestly a majority of posts on here never have anything to do with the draft, many have little to do with basketball or for comprehension by people speaking the English language. However, I will throw you a bone. Shawn Kemp’s nickname should have been Darth Vader, cause odds are he was your father. Also, Shawn Kemp Jr. will one day play in the NBA Summer Leagues. Though, the Reign Man, he is not.

mikeyvthedonParticipantLeaves out so many movies! But it is a good guideline to go by for 1000 solid movies. But yes, Seven Samurai is considered one of the best films of all-time. Rashomon is another Kurosawa film that was incredibly influential as it was the first film to really tell the same story in a number of different ways. It was definitely groundbreaking. Ikiru is the film I still suggest the most, it took place in modern Japan and is quite universal. Hidden Fortress rocks the house, and anything with Mifune/Kurosawa is a must see. That includes films such as Yojimbo, Sanjuro, High and Low, Akihage (Red Beard), Stray Dog and Drunken Angel among others. His movies in color, Ran and Dream among those I have seen, were breathtakingly beautiful. Ran is his Samurai take on King Lear, and he had an older film called Throne of Blood starring Mifune as a MacBeth type figure. But man, I could go on and on, and I still have so many to catch up on. I just watched a French movie called La Haine that was very well done. It focuses on three young kids from the projects in France, one Jewish, one Black and one Arab. They are all friends during a tumultuous time where many french people were rebelling against the police. It was a good movie.
Oh, and I think that Terrence Jones will easily be a top 10 pick if Enes Kanter does not get entrance to Kentucky. Possibly even if he does. He might have the most NBA potential of anyone in that recruiting class this year, even if Kanter and Knight go ahead of him in the draft.

butidonthavemoneyYou don’t have to tell me anything about Kurosawa. The only big movie of his that I haven’t watched all the way through yet is Sanjuro. But Yojimbo, Rashomon, Ikiru, Seven Samurai, Ran, The Hidden Fortress, Kagemusha, Red Beard and Throne of Blood are all favorites of mine. It’s funny you mentioned Let the Right One In, because I started watching that last night. I’ll finish it today.
I’m also a big fan of Chinese actor/writer Stephen Chow. His movies are hilarious. If you haven’t seen Kung Fu Hustle or King of Comedy, check ’em out.

I think Stephen Chow is one of the best un-drafted Free Agents out there. Given his abilities shown in these films, how could he not at least dominate the NBA. One has to wonder.
