MachettiParticipantHow would LeBron and the Lakers do if they played in the Eastern Conference? Obviously they would be a playoff team, but would they be a top 3 seed? Would they win the Conference and play in the finals? I’m assuming they would. I feel if LeBron took last years Cavs team to the finals then why not this Lakers team? Personally playing in the West the Lakers didn’t have time to grow up there are no give me games out West. Essentially they would probably do what the Celtics are doing right now, which is kinda messing around in the regular season and once the playoffs come get their act together. Lastly do you think the Celtics would be a playoff team out West with the roller coaster seasons they had?

Wahoo757ParticipantThe Lakers suck. Changing conferences wouldn’t change that fact.

OhCanada-ParticipantThis Lakers team’s just all over the place. Say what you want about that Cleveland team but after the trade everybody knew what their jobs were. everyone was playing off of Lebron and knew their roles, everyone knew the rotations and their job.
This Laker team nobody even knows the rotation it changes every night. Against Denver Lebron got pulled from the game in the 1st qaurter with 4 minutes left. Makes no sense. In the 4th qaurter he sat for a minute with 5 minutes left in the game. He only played 31 minutes. Mcgee had 16 points was 8-10 after 3 qaurters and didnt even play in the 4th, he’s the only guy that plays his role properly. 21 minutes. Hart was terrible all game and played 40 minutes.
They make too many mistakes. This team wouldnt beat last years Cavs.

MopgrassParticipantWhen the Lakers were all healthy and before they LeBron ruined the lock room when he tried to trade everyone, they’d hit a stride, and the Lakers were playing like a top team. That team, from earlier this year, would give the 2017-2018 Cavs a run for their money.

OhCanada-ParticipantBut that didnt happen. LA didnt stay healthy, Bron ruined the locker room, management didnt make the moves to fix it and they still arent healthy. Cleveland had health issues, Bron ruined the locker room, guys got healthy and management made trades, then they fixed the chemistry issue and hit their stride in the postseason. Saying if doesnt substitute the problem.

BeastMode716Participantthe Lakers cratering & missing the playoffs is No indictment of the Eastern Conference –
It’s a Confirmation that the Lakers have been a disaster & perhaps the worst run franchise in the NBA since the legendary Dr Buss passed away
Anyone who thought that just adding Lebron to the team that has the most Losses in the NBA over the previous 5 years would magically turn it all around was being a bit naive
Most Lakers fans realized that it was going to take at least 2 years to turn this mess around & Lebron would be the cornerstone of a proper turn around but a whole lot of building needs to be done on top of that foundation
Jeannie Buss is doing a good job but she herself admitted she waited too long to fire her goof ball brother Jim who basically thought he could run the Lakers as a Hobby & from the 2013/14 season thru 2017/18 – Five seasons the Lakers Averaged 25 Wins!
Just to give some Context to how Consistently bad the Lakers were these last 5 seasons – the 76ers who did the drastic Process Rebuild where they basically ran a G League team out on the floor for 3 years began in the Same season the Lakers fell apart – 2013/14′ & in the same 5 seasons the Sixers won an Identical 127 games – but the Sixers won 52 games in the 5th year & their Rebuild had definitive goals & a clear upward trajectory that produced 2 NBA All Stars under 25 & they look poised to win 50+ games & compete for Titles for Years to come.
The Nets who were Devestated by their disastrous trade w/ the Celtics in the same 5 years won 151 Games! And the Nets will make the playoffs this year & feature a Young All Star as well – D’Lo Russell – who the Lakers Drafted & Gave away to dump salary b/c they made a ridiculous Free Agent singing & paid Mozkov a Fortune!
The Phoneix Suns – who ESPN just wrote a large piece on reporting on what a Disaster the Suns are from ownership through managament through scouting in the Same 5 years have Won 155 games in those same 5 years & have some Very exciting young talent like Devin Booker & DeAndre Ayton & the Suns have a legit shot at adding Zion in the Draft Lottery
So No this is Not a reflection on the East – it’s a reflection on the Lakers & the dammage Jim Buss & Mitch Kupchak unleashed

HitsterParticipantFlipping the question slightly – The Cavs are 16-49 so far this season, what do people reckon they would have been with LBJ still on the team. I’d figure he’d have got them nearer to 0.500 at least.

r377ParticipantThere are 6 Lebron / Lakers threads on the first page.
Can we plz talk about any of the other 29 teams in the league.

Sewok15ParticipantThe Lakers are 9-12 vs Eastern conference teams this year. That is a 42.8 winning percentage….which would put them 11th in the East which is the same exact spot they are in the West. They actually win games at a higher rate this year against Western conference teams.
Really if you look at the top 5 in each conference they are similar. The West is better 6,7 and 8 and that is about it.
LeBron has played fairly well by his standards but has not been assertive enough to carry this team to the playoffs in either conference. It seems like he is content to take a year to get acclaimated and rest up for next season when they try to recruit another star.
It is hard to judge the effort LeBron gives because he is supremely talented. Earlier this year I was at a game in San Antonio where he had 28 at half time and it was like he wasn’t even trying. The Spurs outscored them by 23 in the 4th quarter and LeBron finished with 35. Years ago that would easily been a 40+ point game for him but he seems to be picking his spots more and deferring to younger players. Maybe it is smart considering he in on the first year of his deal and they don’t have the talent to contend.

OhCanada-ParticipantToronto has the best record in the league vs. the West 19-7.
