Bird_YearsParticipantGoing to stay away from the whole Kobe thing with this post and provide some stats for the debate about whether the Lakers have been getting preferential treatment from the referees
I looked at free throw attempts by the Lakers this year compared to a couple other teams:
2013:
1.Lakers: 27.8
2. Thunder: 27.0
3. Nuggets: 26.02012
1. Nuggets: 26.7
2. Thunder: 26.4
….
9. Lakers: 24.12011
1. Denver: 29.6
2. Oklahoma: 29.3
…..
17. Lakers: 24.1On one hand you might say this is clear evidence that the Lakers are the recipients of undeserved foul calls, but on the other you can point to the fact that Dwight Howard arrived this year and gets 9.4 FTA per game as well as the fact that Lakers increased their possessions per game to 97.9 from 94.7
The only reason why I looked into this is because I watched the New Orleans game recently and I thought that the Lakers did get the benefit of the doubt whenever there’s a grey area call, but that’s most likely my inner conspiracy theorist working overtime.
