Personally, I don’t like LaceDarius Dunn at all as an NBA prospect. I don’t see him ever being anything but a 4th-5th string backup guard at the most in an NBA setting. With that said, he’s had a lot of attention on him throughout much of his college history, and especially last season, as he led the Baylor Bears to the Elite Eight. This season, Baylor has dropped to 18-11, 7-8 in the Big 12. Perry Jones has taken most of the hype away from him this season for Baylor and as a team they regularly look disorganized offensively and defensively. Dunn was arrested last fall for aggravated assault and missed the first three games of the season.

Dunn is averaging 20 PPG but is doing so on 41% shooting while averaging nearly 4 TOs a game with only around 2 assists, making him an inefficient player. He relies very heavily on his jumper to make an impact offensively and personally, I don’t think he’s quite a good enough shooter to make it work. He’s a volume scorer, the type of player who can give you a pretty big numbers in the points column, but shoots you out of games. He lacks great shot selection, he’s not a good athlete in NBA standards, consistently plays no defense in the games I saw this year, he’s undersized for an SG and he’s one dimensional. With my thoughts out of the way, what does everyone else think? Is his star fading, or is he a legit prospect going forward?

He is a jacker. He will not be in the NBA. He might make a NBDL all star team. Maybe. He is one of the problems on that team. He has no PG abilities and is a turnover waiting to happen.

I agree. I don’t think he’ll be a very good NBA player. He scores, but needs to take many shots to do so, and will struggle to score in the NBA because of his lack of quickness. And he’s a ballhog.

Yeah Dunn, as much as I’m a fan of his "old man at the YMCA" style game, isn’t going to be a very good NBA player. He can shoot it, but he’s a chucker and the way he shoots from a form standpoint isn’t going to translate to the NBA very easily. He also is a pretty shaky ball-handler, and he lacks a bit of quickness and athleticism, which is evident when he plays against a good defender. Even though he’s played mostly zone in his career, he’s also not much of a defender which he has played man, which isn’t going to change in the NBA. And to top it all off, Dunn looks closer to 6’2 or 6’3 than the 6’4 he’s listed at. He’s been a great scorer for Baylor over the last 4 years, but NBA? He, at best, can be like Reggie Williams of the Golden State Warriors, but Williams had to come from the D-League. And he went from the D-League to a team that plays a offensive style that benefits players who can score and don’t really play D. Dunn would have to have such luck, along with putting up gaudy numbers.

As far as his stock goes, Baylor not making the NCAA tournament has really dropped it.  He may be able to make it into the league at some point, but since the question is about his draft stock…I’d say he’s out of the 2nd round right now.  IF Baylor would have had a run like they did last year he may have had a shot to get in the 2nd round, but he’s not the type of guy thats going to wow people in the combine and see a spike in his stock in May or June.  He’s just going to have to play his way in the NBA at this point through Summer League, Europe or the D-League.

Dunn would’ve went 2nd round last year I’d say, he had alot of buzz after they played Duke in the Elite 8, but that’s certainly better than now. He legitimately could go undrafted this year, and this isn’t even nearly as good a class as last year. Tweety Carter was a HUGE factor in why Dunn was so good last year. Carter was EASILY the most underrated PG in the nation last year, and he allowed Dunn to do more work off the ball, were he’s at his best. Lace Dunn (and for a large part of the season) Jacob Pullen struggled to play as good as last year because the PG’s on their teams were so great at scoring and creating for others that it made their jobs that much easier.
