Michael Jordan and Doug Collins killed his confidence. That may be the reason why he never panned out, nobody knows.

Jordan signing Brown to the Bobcats makes no sense. Jordan would get so frusrtrated at him and would say some mean things to him. If I was Brown, I wouldn’t even want to play for Jordan, even if he is the greatest NBA player ever.

I know he was young when he was drafted, but….he said mean things? This is basketball, you better believe if you are going to work for Michael Jordan and underachieve massively, he is going to have something to say to you.

That article is a joke, it made it seem like Kwame Brown failed because Michael Jordan is mean. That is the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard. My dad beat me and Michael Jordan called me a faggot so now I suck at basktball.

lol anybody find that rediculous other than me?

I actually like Kwame returning to Jordan. He’ll be freed from the expectations placed upon him as the #1 pick and Larry Brown will be able to help him. It says a lot to his character that he’s facing up to the guy who broke him down and is having another crack. It seems like after all this time he is finally picking himself up off the floor. I really hope this works out for him; he’s only 28 and has played relatively limited minutes in his career. If he can stay healthy and improve under Coach Brown he could be their C of the future.

I guess I’m just an optimist when it comes to second chances.

not saying its right or wrong people
its merely an insight, an opinion.
But its undeniable that Jordan played a role in what he became as a player

I really consider it as a really "interesting" story IMO… But I think if Kwame took it the wrong way… He considered Jordan’s word as an insult instead of a challenge… Yes, I saw some flashes of Kwame Brown back when he was a rook with Washington… I remember one game where the Raptors host the Wiz and what was the first meeting between fellow Tar Heel alumni MJ and Vince Carter and how Carter tortured the Wiz in the first half before being held scoreless in the second… Kwame was the X-Factor in that game which includes a sick follow up dunk to add to his 10 points and 8 rebound-effort while MJ finished with 21 as they dismantle the suddenly-quiet Toronto crowd…

I remember how Scottie Pippen took it upon himself to take Jordan’s words as a challenge and how he became one of the most complete players in the game… It’s all a matter of how to take some harsh words in order to become a better individual and Kwame took it the sensitive but wrong way…

    michael jordan is a bully.
i dont think anything good about the guy. i think he was an amazing basketball player but thats it.
i dont see him succeeding in anything else in his lifetime.
i think his hall of fame speech was despicable and the way he treated kwame brown when he was an 18 year old really showed the guy has no compassion.
f*ck jordan. i wouldnt shake the mans hand

I’m sick and tired of this guy, Marcus made a great point. If you have a chance to learn from MJ then take it with both hands. Brown lacks heart and a passion for the game, that’s the reason why he’ll never be a great player. The way he stands on the field disinterested most of the time is ridiculous. Another thing, his Basketball IQ has barely improved since he was a high school player, there are better players than him not getting drafted each year. People need to stop giving this guy chances, I don’t care if he’s still only 28 years old. If you haven’t learned a thing after 10 seasons then you never will.

If he doesnt have THICK skin, maybe he should be playing PROFESSIONAL basketball…. I understand that Jordan was hard on hime in his rookie year, but he hasnt shown the work ethic or bball IQ to succeed in the NBA.. He has turned into a a decent defender and a solid rebounder… BTW he has some of the worst hands I have ever seen, i dont think its Jordans fault the Kwame Brown cant hold on to the ROCK….

right on… When he signed that 2 year deal with Detroit, people are saying this could be his shot to prove what he can do after all… I was one of those guys who thought he could prove himself right then and there… Even guys around the NBA like Arenas says that Kwame’s time to shine will be in Motown but lo and behold, he never really averaged more than 4 ppg… The best game he ever had as a Piston was a regular season game where he had a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds) against the Lakers!… LOL

I gave up on this guy a long time ago but when he signed that contract with Detroit, I just thought maybe, just maybe he can be the player that everyone was expecting him to be when he was selected 1st overall by the Wiz… Well, bust is a bust, let’s leave it at that… The signing is nothing more than to add a cheap big man for Charlotte…

I don’t think you can criticize Jordan’s personality or his mean streak when it was the very thing that enabled him to be the GOAT. Jordan himself has admitted in interviews that his competitiveness has pushed people away and made people hate him, but its that same quality, a reckless disregard for the needs of others in the pursuit of victory. Jordan’s driving motivation is to be remembered long after he has died; he frequently mentioned in interviews things like being remembered, and not wanting to go to his grave forgotten. Yes, he paid the price on a personal level, but I’d say it was worth it.

You’re entitled to dislike him, but only if you understand that his intensity as a basketball player consumed him and made him that way. As someone who has similarly demanded everything people have to give in even low level play and been burned by it I admire his passion and intensity.

That mean streak, that chip on his shoulder is the thing that these players like Lebron, Dwight and I daresay Durant are lacking when it comes to surpassing Jordan.

Slightly off-topic, but just couldn’t help myself. He’s a professional athlete, not a politician; unless he breaks the law we can’t really judge him for what happened off the court.

Ahem, but yeah… Kwame Brown. Woo haha.

hes not a professional athlete. hes an ex professional athlete, current team owner of the charlotte bobcats.
as a basketball player i have deamed him great. as a person and a manager/owner hes terrible.
i dont see why his need for people to remember him is admirable? more like pitiful right? i mean did you see him at his hall of fame speech? you would think that a man who is unanimously known as the best ever in his line of work would understand modesty better than that. Its understandable from an athlete in his 20s or early 30s to be a dick and i dont judge him for that. but a man nearing the age of 50 to act the way he does is sad.

also i dont understand how you in some way feel that because you get too competitive during playground basketball means that you can relate MJ. but i also dont care.

It seems I didn’t explain myself very well; I was only talking about the way MJ behaved while he was still playing; specifically while playing with Kwame.

I agree completely that he needs to take a step back and let his body of work as a player speak for itself now that he is officially retired rather than trying to rub it in people’s faces; but then MJ was never modest so I don’t expect him to change during his HoF speech. Then again, it must chafe to see Lebron get put in the discussion as GOAT without even winning a title yet, so its understandable that MJ would get a little defensive about his turf.
