 If im the knicks this summer this is what i would do. 

Resign Ronny Turiaf and Shelden Williams  and let Anthony Carter, Jared Jeffries, Roger Mason and Shawnee Willliams go. 

Then I sign Jr. smith, Tyson chandler, Carl Landry, and Carlos Arroyo.

I think these guys would be more than happy to sign with the promising knicks this off season and take a little less money also. This way the knicks could sign a Dwight Howard or Chris paul

 I forgot about the draft haha. I would not sign carlos arroyo and draft Nolan smith. Nolan is a good 3 point shooter, good defender and has a high basketball IQ which are the three most important things to be a good back up point guard.

 JR Smith loses more games than he wins with his irratic behavior and shooting. I’d prefer that we trade for OJ Mayo who is the more intelligent ball player and capable of playing the PG spot. 

I like Carl Landry but the amount of money he’ll command, makes him less appealing when you consider that we have Amar’e and Melo already playing ahead of him. A cheaper alternative that can defend and shoot at the forward spots (like bringing back Shawne Williams) would be more prudent.

I also like Tyson Chandler but why would he leave Dallas? Mark Cuban will pay him the money he wants and will also surround him with the talent necessary to compete. Samuel Dalembert might be available though and does exactly what Chandler does for the Mavs.

Ronny Turiaf is already under contract. He has a player option but I doubt he excerises it since he’d struggle to find a better contract than $4 million per year as a backup center in this economy. On the other hand, I don’t like Shelden Williams’ game. The guy is a basketball moron and offers little in the way of actual skill. I much rather add Kwame Brown whose better in every respect of the game.

The reason why i choose jr. is because i think he would fit the mike dantoni style of play better. Also because jr. smith has played with melo and chauncey in denver and knows how to play with them I think OJ is capable of running the point but id much rather have nolan playing there. I mixed up shawnee williams and shelden williams. The reason why I would bring in carl Landry is because he is tough even though he is undersized ( he has shown that in the series against the lakers)  and front court toughness is key for the knicks. I think tyson chandler would come over cause he wants to play with stars and win a champinship

 Many players can fit Mike D’Antoni’s style. That doesn’t mean that their games are conducive to winning. Besides, if D’Antoni had a problem with Al Harrington’s shot selection, imagine the hissy fit he’ll throw with JR Smith who has the worst shot selection in the league.

I like Nolan Smith and would prefer him over Toney Douglas as our backup PG. At the same time, no mid to late first round pick can match what OJ Mayo is capable of. Mayo does everything Nolan does but significantly better.

As for Landry, I like him too but, again, he is too expensive. If toughness is what we’re looking for, we should add it to our starting lineup at the 5 spot. Like I said earlier, the minutes at the bench forward spots are limited while we have a gapping hole at center. Nene can do most of the things Landry does offensively but in a 6-11, 250lbs frame. I do like Tyson Chandler also but I don’t buy the “he wants to come over…to play with stars and win a championship” argument. He has stars in Dirk Nowitzki and Caron Butler and the Mavericks are much closer to a championship than we are currently constructed. Besides that point, Dallas can offer him more money.
