Knicks Looking For Backup Point Guard, Offering Walker

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/70430/20101205/knicks_looking_for_backup_point_guard_offering_walker/

Rafter Alston, Jamaal Tinsley, Javaris Crittenton maybe... thoughts??

Being that Alston and Tinsley are from NY ...as am I, I would love to see either of them get signed. Both are veterans with great vision and passing ability. Alstron is the better shooter by far but Tinsley is much stronger and has a better post game. Both would fit right in with this NY offense and its about time the Knicks get some home town flavor on the bench! If the Knicks are looking for youth and at a cheaper price, Crittenton is also a guy worth giving a look to. He's an oversized point guard with great slashing ability and athleticism, he could be a great spark plug type of scorer similar to former Knick Nate Robinson.

My first 2 picks are somewhat biased but I really do feel that fit in well. Crittenton is just a guy I've always been very intrigued with and always felt he would flourish on a team like the Knicks or any team with a similar offensive scheme. That being said, who are some other point guards you would like to see the Knicks give a chance 2? Trades are a definite possibility since they are offering Bill Walker as bait... Patty Mills for Bill Walker would definitely be a good look for the Knicks. So what you guys think??

Maybe

Bill Walker for Sundiate Gaines with Flynn coming back Minny has no use for him Walker would also fit nicely with Beasley/Brewer/Johnson on the wing

Antonio Daniels is reportedly

Antonio Daniels is reportedly playing really well in the D-League. The Knicks have a full roster, but if they were to clear up a space they could sign him on the cheap. I'm not sold on Shawne Williams, so cutting him may be an option.

The thing is

Toney Douglas is more suited at the 2 in this system kind of like Barbosa when D'Antoni was in PHX. Telfair would be nice but he isnt a true PG and thats what NYK wants. Gaines is a great option IMO

Marbury is just a cancer to

Marbury is just a cancer to the Knicks. The Knicks already had him once and everyone complained how much of a cancer to the team he was. If he wasn't so much of a cancer, the Knicks would probably still have him. I don't think the Knicks want to go through that again. I get the feeling that Tinsley will do the same. So if you want a veteran, I'd either go for Rafer Alston or Chucky Atkins. But if you want young than Crittenton, Gaines, or Acie Law would be good.

Knicks

I don't think the Knicks are going to find what they desire with what is left. None of the guards left are great playmakers. Most are just ok backups for a few minutes a game. I haven't gotten to watch a lot of the Knicks this year, but I'm sure they like to get out and run. Though I think Tinsley may be able to, he hasn't played in a few years and Alston basically threw a few tantrums on his way out of the league. If I had to pick one of all the names mentioned it would be Chucky Atkins. He can still play, good guy to have in the locker and he can shoot so he keeps things opened up in the half court.

According to some Knick fans

According to some Knick fans Tony Douglass is supposed to be a starting material Point guard so why in the world would the Knicks be looking for a back up PG?..Was Tony over hyped?

Douglas is more a scoring

Douglas is more a scoring point. He looks great next to passing PG's.

I would suggest: we go get Acie Law or Jamal Tinsley

All the available PG's have

All the available PG's have been mentioned so it's likely to be a solid veteran or they give a younger guy like Crittenton another shot at the NBA. Crittenton may be higher risk as he is not proven but he may potentially be a better ball handler than some of the other guys are at this stage of their career and his size would give the Knicks a nice backcourt size advantage if he played alongside Fields when Felton went to the bench for a breather.

Otherwise it is pick one of the available veterans who can give the Knicks 10 to 15mpg behind Felton unless they could snare someone from abroad but that would be unlikely at this stage of the season.
