The Knicks could be really good next if they don’t mess everything up.

If they have the worst record they are going to get a top 3 pick and that can really set them up for the future. The top 3 picks look like Jahlil Okafor, Karl Anthony Towns, and Emmanuel Mudiay. Those three in my opinion can be stars. I think Jahlil Okafor and Emmanuel Mudiay can reach that level ( I have a little doubt about Karl Anthony Towns ).

I don’t belive the Knicks should try to get a max level player next year to compliment Carmelo Anthony, like LaMarcus Aldridge/Marc Gasol. They should try to get good quality players that play both ends and do everything on the court.

Imagine these lineups that would be reasonable for the Knicks to target/get.

    PG: Reggie Jackson

SG: Arron Afflalo or Wes Matthews

    SF: Carmelo Anthony

    PF: Thaddeus Young

    C:    Jahlil Okafor

    OR

    PG: Emmanuel Mudiay

SG: Arron Afflalo or Wes Matthews

    SF: Carmelo Anthony

    PF: Thaddeus Young

    C  : Robin Lopez

    OR

    PG: Reggie Jackson

SG: Arron Afflalo or Wes Matthews

    SF: Carmelo Anthony

    PF: Karl-Anthony Towns

    C  : Robin Lopez

All those potential lineups seem to be good enough to make the playoffs in the EAST.

I hate that idea to be honest. They wallowed in their own self pity the past few years with the platform of Melo + role players…

Go out and get a max guy to pair with Melo. Pay Marc Gasol every dollar he’s ever wanted.

These are reasonable lineups. I don’t honestly believe that the Knocks can land a top tier star / max player like a Marc Gasol or an LaMarcus Aldrich. You can argue the Knicks went the " let’s spend alot of money to free agents that a lot are supposedly stars. They signed Amare and they signed Tyson Chandler the huge deals that set them back.

The guys that I listed are great players that won’t cost as much and will fit Carmelo Anthony skill set and his liabilities that will make this team much better. All the players I listed besides the rookies and Robin Lopez have proven they can score and all of them knows how to defend.

You don’t want to be in a salary cap struggle because you invest in stars but your whole team is trash and won’t win, look at the Nets. By this roster you can make the playoffs in the East and probably get out the first round in 2015. One of the rookies might end up being stars in their own right and if that happen this team can explode and be a real title contender. You don’t want to put to many eggs in one basket and by throwing money at players you be smart and make the right basketball investment and get players at reasonable prices that cover up the team weaknesses.

They couldn’t win this year when Carmelo was healthy. I think you over estimate the ability of rookies to come into the NBA become good NBA starters. Also you haven’t even mentioned the bench.

That’s why I had them getting some quality vets in the off season to. Like Wes Matthews/AA, Thad Young, and Robin Lopez. I didn’t mention the bench because it’s a hard to say who should they target to be on the bench. They already got some decent young players coming back next year in Shane Larkin, and Tim Hardaway Jr. They can add some vets to shore up the bench if needed.

I would trade the pick to the Kings, for DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins is a top 5 scorer in the league this season & has all the skill set Phil loves in a big man, playing in the triangle offense. Jahlil Okafor or Towns would take too long to develop, I think Cousins is a better option…You know what your getting from Cousins, and Phil could help "tame" him some like he did with Dennis Rodman…After they acquire Cousins, the Knicks should try to get Al Horford to leave the Hawks. NY does have a large Dominican population, so he’ll feel at home. Horford all round game & defense would mesh well with Cousins. Cousins, Melo, & AL Horford would be a sick trio. Also I think Randy Foye would be a good cheap quick solution at point guard, in the triangle offense. Foye is from nearby New Jersey, and always been known as a good spot up shooter with an edge.

Those lineups will not happen. Wishful thinking though.

I believe with the 30 Million in Cap space they need to focus on Dragic/Matthews/Millsap or to a lesser degree David West/Demarre Carroll types (Hopefully 35-40 Mil if we can clear Calderon)

If they could get an LA or a Gasol for MAX I am all for it BUT with the money advantages of re-signing with your own team I don’t see it happening.

What do you guys think of either of these 2 Lineups of

    PG – Dragic (4/52 Mill)

    SG – Hardaway Jr.

    SF Anthony

    PF – Millsap (3/33 Mill)

    C –  Towns/Okafor

    6th Man

    SF- Demarre Carrol (3/21)

    OR

    PG- Dragic (4/52 Mil)

    SG- Matthews (4/40 Mil)

    SF- Anthony

    PF- West (2/10 Mil)

    C- Towns Okafor

    Bench

    6th Man – SG Hardaway

This would leave 5-12 Million with Calderon gone to fill the team in with some young piecs and vets
