Ok, in the spirit of the upcoming NBA draft, I decided to look at recently drafted Kentucky players and see if I could make a starting lineup out of only former 1st round draft picks that are no longer in the NBA.  I am only looking at Calipari one and done years.

The Kentucky Small Ball First Round Bust-Outs Lineup:

    Center:  Daniel Orton

    PF:  Terrence Jones

    SF/wing:  James Young

    CG:  Archie Goodwin

PG:  Marquis Teague (starter), Aaron Harrison (back-up CG, can prob play point for a few minutes)

It’s kind of a testament to the volume of the OAD machine that Kentucky is that even though it can claim massive stars like AD, KAT, Boogie, etc… that there are this many busted first rounders from just the last few years.  Does anyone think this lineup could pull out a W against a really shitty tanking team like Memphis?  It doesn’t seem plausible, but I am sure that it would be entertaining.

Considering none of them were lottery picks I don’t really consider them very much of busts. they were all taken in the high risk/high reward zone.

Orton- I don’t remember anyone actually liking who he was as a player. People only talked about how he might be an NBA guy in the future. He was young and a total potential pick. Should be no surprise it didn’t work out.

Teague- I’ve mentioned many times how much I hate my Bulls for this pick. But I expected him to hang around in the league and be a solid back up for many years. I still think he has a chance to get back into the NBA as a back up. He has a few years of prime athetic ability still left.

Jones- He was an NBA player. Very unlucky with injuries.

Young- I LOVED him coming out of college. I thought he had the chance to be a top 10 SG in the NBA in 5 years. I was so very very wrong.

I’m still so disappointed about James Young. Like Chewy, I thought he was gonna be a really good player that would help keep Boston as a contender. I’ll never really understand how a guy can look so good, then so lost in the NBA

Not sure why anyone thought Young was going to be good..he had handles of a center and went left EVERYTIME. And very slow release.

MKG comes to my mind, he’s not a bust I know but his draft position at number 2, I thought he could be more of a Gerald Wallace type, He suffered injuries that hindered his development I think.
