Who got Long-Term potential Willie Cauley-Stein or Dakari Johnson????

I like Johnson the reason why he’s old school center he played his back to basketball and could be dominate one day in the league. Cauley-Stein develop right get his offense polish up he will be nice big men in the league and good rim protector too he remind of poor man verison Tyson Chandler but very raw in his skills.

WCS is very long but more like a face-to-the-basket, athletic PF, while Dakari is 6’11-265 lbs and still growing, with the game of a true C. They both will do well in the NBA, IMO, and the only thing that is sure is that they will complement each other very well this year, Kentucky should be veeeery difficult to defeat.

I want to see Dakari play CBB before we attempt this comparison. Johnson has been labeled as an average athlete for a center but I don’t know if that will hold true. Cauley-Stein wins the NBA potential right now because of his athleticism and play with Noel out last season

WCS. I don’t even think it’s that close. Better athlete, longer, more upside.

Dakari Johnson to me should develop into a Kendrick Perkins type guy with more offensive polish. That to any NBA team is extremely valuable. Sure Cauley-Stein is an elite athlete for his size with amazing body control but I just see Johnson as that old school type C like Perkins (before the injury plague), Gasol, or Bogut. Whether he has ad much NBA understanding to defend at that level or set screens and quarterback his team vocally remains to be seen.

WCS has the greater potential because he’s the better athlete with better tools, but I think in the long run Dakari will be the better basketball player. WCS just looks like an athlete trying to play basketball. Dakari looks like a basketball player who understands his position already. Dakari plays physically, he’s more fundamentally sound, has better touch, plays with a mean streak and does all the little things that C’s do. Rim runs, pins, boxing out, big screens, fighting for position, seals, etc. Dakari already knows how to play like a C. WCS better put in the work this off-season and be prepared to fight off Dakari, otherwise I see Dakari taking some of WCS’ minutes.

I’d tend to go with WCS too. We’ve already seen that he can be a great college player and potentially a great NBA player. I was never wowed with Dakari in high school. Similar to DaJuan Coleman in a lot of ways.

DaJuan is fat, slow and soft. Dakari played tougher as a reclassified junior in HS than DaJuan played as a college freshman. Coach Cal won’t have to encourage Dakari to play with toughness.
Dakari’s not going to “wow” people with his game because he’s not a physical specimen type. But if you appreciate C’s with fundamentals and toughness who completely understand positioning (which is half the game for C’s), then it’s easy to appreciate his game.

When’s the last time you have seen Dejuan? He’s no longer close to being fat nor slow

Johnson has bad knees? Don’t just make up things, Johnson does not have bad knees, has never had any knee problems and has never missed a game. The only reason some say WCcS has more potential is due to being a better athlete. Johnson is more skilled and has a better basketball IQ. You don’t have to be a great athlete as a big man to be very good. Johnson may not jump high but he is very fast for his size and beats other centers up and down the court (check out the notes on the McDonalds AA game practices). Johnson is already known as a good defender and a very good rebounder and the Kendrick Perkins with more offense comparison is pretty good, a Mark Gasol clone as his potential is very realistic
