    .

This post was inspired by the one earlier about what player the jazz should choose between Kendall Marshall or Myck Kabongo. Personally I would have to go Kabongo because he just seems like the better pro prospect, but I digress this isn’t about Myck Kabongo it is about the hype surrounding Kendall Marshall.

Marshall is no doubt an exceptional passer but apart from that what does he do that is anything more than mediocre?? Look at the numbers from last season, he shot a sub par field goal percentage of 42% and 37% from 3, so its fair to say he isn’t lighting it up from anywhere really. That’s not even mentioning his stats this year, and I know its early but from what I’ve seen besides his passing everything is atrocious 36% from the field….. In the words of Steve Berman Come on MAN!!!!!!!

This is what leads me to believe that Kendall Marshall in the NBA will be a rich man’s Omar Cook. I know it seams outlandish but look at Kendall’s stats in comparison to those of Omar Cook. In Omar’s only season at St Johns he shot 36% from the field, but he was arguably the best passer in the nation averaging an amazing 8.7 per game. The similarities are glaring, two unathletic players with high Basketball IQ’s and great passing ability.

Yeh there was lots of hype about him before the season started.  At this stage its still too early to judge, yes he still warrants first round consideration, especially if he lead NC to a national championship…

He is still young, shooting can be worked on and improved.

Every player is different in his development so…. let’s give him a chance !!! (therefore cook is having a pretty nice career in europe)

I personaly like his game, even with its athletic limits: a true PG with great passing skills is always useful.

In the 1st round endhe might be a great pick but I’d rather choose kabongo too in the middle.

Percentages aside, you can’t deny UNC was night and day when Marshell began to start. He wins games, period.

I don’t think he is doubting Marshall’s impact for UNC. I think he is doubting his future as a good NBA player. I think that is fair. I think he can make it in the league though. He is a big kid and makes smart plays. This is NOT a direct comparison but Andre Miller isn’t the most athletic guy or best shooter and he made a great career. It can be done.

There is definitely a place for Marshall in the league. Guys who know wherre to get the ball and make smart decisions when in the game always have a place. Whether he’s a starter or 3rd string guard, the kid is a 10 year player IMO. Just look at Kevin Ollie. He made a career for himself as 3rd string by being smart and a natural leader.

Imagine him on a team where he doesn’t have to score a ton. He’d be perfect for a team like the Heat (they’ll NEVER be in a position to draft him though) that has tons of offensive weapons, and all he’d have to do is create opportunities for others.

If I am a team that is just starting to build and doesn’t have alot of talent, easily I take Kabongo.  But, if I am a team with alot of talent around it that just needs someone to put those players in sync and lead us to that next level, I might take Marshall.  Kendall’s got intangibles and passing ability.  If you surrond him with talent, he will maximize their abilities.  But, if he is surrounded with mediocrity, intangibles and passing ability will only go so far and he will not be worth that pick.

For the sake of their careers, I’d probably rather see Kabongo go first to a below average, rising team and Marshall fall a bit to a contender that just needs someone to lead that team and get the ball to his stars where they can make plays.

I think Kendall would be a great fit with the Mavs, Grizzlies, Hawks, or Lakers.

I think Kabongo would be an ideal fit for the Raptors (if they would trade down), Jazz, or Clippers (if Bledsoe won’t work out).  Kabongo, Griffin, Aminu, Jordan, and Gordon on the break would be nasty.

I think Marshall would be a good fit with the Jazz, if you think about the future of the Jazz it is Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks and  a young pt guard, Marshall would be asked to get the ball to these young studs and I think his smarts, size and skills would be a good fit.

The 2012 draft will be interesting and who knows where the Jazz will end up picking, it could be around 10 or it could be in the late teens.

Kendall Marshall, John Wall, or Rondo?

Though they’re just summer league games, John Wall seems to have seriously perfected his mid range jumper. Kendall Marshall is more of a streaky shooter and Rondo is just hopeless…

+1 for that point bout the jazz.  They are more of a halfcourt set offensive team so kendall could be a grat fit there, especially if he improves his shooting.  His entry passes to big al, kanter, millsap, and favors would put that team in position to be one of the most dominant low post offensive teams we’ve seen since the twins towers in san antonio if those guys live up to their potential.  Tons of talent and depth at pf and c.

Less athletic Rondo? Kendall has the keys to a big three in Barnes, Henson, and Zeller.

Rondo has the keys to Pierce, Allen, and Garnett.

    Both make them run beautifully.

Marshall to me is a taller, more disciplined and in shape Marcus Williams. I think Williams could’ve been a fringe starter or good backup if he would’ve just watched his weight and stayed more coachable

"In the words of Steve Berman Come on MAN!!!!!!!"

Are you talking about Steve BARTMAN, or CRHIS Berman, cause I’m confused.

And I have no doubt that Marshall can play in the league. He is smart and makes good decisions. I can see him as an Andre Miller type, or even like a Rondo, taking into consideration that he runs the break more.

Iggy, that’s exactly what I thought of him the first time I seen him play last year. I believe however Marcus Williams had a lil more natural talent than Marshall though. But ultimately he’s seems a lil limited as a prospect and whether or not he’ll be projected as a starter will probably be a hotly debated topic amongst the scouting community; but a guy with his skill set at the position certainly has a spot in the league. Shooting must def improve though and as his college career goes on, he should be able to (provided he doesn’t come out of course).
