Read the thread on Pangos and mention of Olynyk. Right now I don’t see him on any mock drafts.

Am I missing something? He looks like he could be a first rounder this year.

I remember watching the Americas Tourney and thinking “wow” not only did Olynyk make the Canadian national team but that he was getting significant PT, and against the likes of Argentina and Brazil.

He looks like a completely different player than he did just a year and a half ago. He can bang in the post now with his added muscle. He really seems good at drawing contact and getting fouls. Can put the ball on the floor. Can knock down long range shots. Shooting 67% on the season and 80% FTs.

Last five games: 18 ppg, 6rpg, against the likes of Ok. State, Illinois, Baylor and KSU.

I think he could be a 1st rounder, next year. He’s a 4 year player ( probably not 5 since he redshirted), but he’s super active around the glass and has a great fire, when he’s on the court. Plus being 7′ tall and having the ability to step out and knock down a deep jumper will really help his stock in the NBA. He’s really active around the rim on the offense glass too. I don’t remember him from before his red-shirt year, but he does have a strong lower body and is clearly not afraid to bang in the post, despite not having great rebounding numbers. He really impressed me vs. OSU, but I’d put him as an early 2nd rounder in 2013, but like most mid-major players on the fringe of the 1st and 2nd round, I bet he comes back for at least one more year.

Olynyk is now the 8th pick in the 2nd round on the new DX mock draft put out today. Maybe he’l crack the next mock on this site.

That’s a good spot for him.
I put him 4th in the 2nd round last night.
The concerns I have about him have to do with his defense. I think he’s a back up big, but most back up bigs seem to be defensive oriented. He has C size, but he’s not a paint protector or a guy who’ll clean the defensive glass. Less than 10 rebounds/40 is not a good rate for a college C.
He’s skilled and playing more physically with the added bulk, but will he be able to throw his weight around like he’s doing in college at the next level? I still think he needs to put on more weight. Hopefully that won’t affect his mobility. If he doesn’t, I still think he can survive as a skilled big. He might have to dust off his 3 ball though.
