Evan_MilbergParticipantCrazy stuff here.
Apparently Turkey is seeking an international arrest warrant for Enes Kanter, who they claim is part of a terror organization. Kanter asserts he’s never so much as received a parking ticket. However, he has been an outspoken critic of Erdogan, which has pissed off a lot of people, including Hedo Turkoglu. The Knicks were scheduled to play the Wizards in London, but Kanter didn’t go due to safety concerns.
What do you all think of this? Personally, I think it’s really cool that Kanter is taking a stand and a bit of a bummer that Turkoglu isn’t back him up.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantIt takes a lot of testicular fortitude to stand up to a Radical regime
And if they (The Turkish) were to send killers to US soil to assassinate Kanter (a US citizen) That would be an act of WAR…The Turkish, regardless of their diplomatic position in the world, don’t want no Smoke

khaled_a_dParticipantWhat do Turkoglu have to do with any of this? What did he say?

XYRYXParticipantI was wondering the same and it seems that Hedo is a ‘chief advisor’ of Erdogan. Don’t know what that really means and for how long he is that but it is obvious that Hedo has herz close ties to the Erdogan regime and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that his comments are the way they are.
Kanters ties to Gulen are also well documented and while I respect his outspoken critics about Erdogan and that he doesn’t shy away from what his position means and the possible consequences, he has a lot to lose in this. I don’t really hope he has to fear for his life in the US at this point, this could get much worse if he continues to speak his mind the way he does lately.
Since his OKC days Kanter has a place in my heart for his big heart and and I realized he is a nice guy and any close mate of Adams must be someone special. Hope this whole thing doesn’t end bad for Enes since as a european I’m well aware of what Erdogan is doing with all the thousands of political prisoners he arrested over the last couple of years to build and maintain his power.

HitsterParticipantBeing UK based I’ve read quite a bit about Kanter not coming over for the Knicks game. We’ve got enough going on with Brexit so I doubt that he’d get arrested but maybe he feels he’s more of a target in London than in the US.

OhCanada-ParticipantWhy would any NBA team want to sign Kanter. If death threats from a radical regime (or so Im told I dont really know much about it) arent a dsitraction I dont know what is.

mowestenParticipantUmm, has everyone forgotten that the former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, was in talks with Turkey to stage a kidnapping to extradite the Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen out of Pennsylvania, not on principle or because it was in the United States’ interests, but for $15 million.
Not only can Turkey get to Kanter, they might receive help from the United States in the process if the price is right.

I respect what Kanter is doing, but it is likely at great risk to himself and others.
