J.R. Smith

He's in the final year of his contract and has until October 31st to sign an extension or he'll be a free agent. Will he get an extension, be traded or leave in free agency, and where if he leaves?

I could see signing as a free

I could see signing as a free agent for a bad team looking to improve for more than what he is worth. He is an explosive scorer, so many interprit a potential 20+ ppg scorer as a difference maker, but to me he is a Ricky Davis/ J.R. Rider player. A highlight guy who just isn't going to live up to his potential, but score a lot of points and not do much else in the mean time.

I think he is a very good

I think he is a very good player in a bad situation, I feel like him and melo kind of plays the same, two players that just wants to chuck and play no d. It he could go to a team with a 3 thats doesnt shoot so much he would fit, I think a good spot for him would be new orleans, detroit or move him to philly for iggy to give evan turner some assists.

IMO

He will be an add on in any Carmelo Anthony trade because of his scoring. Carmelo will most likely go to an established team if its by trade and JR has value he gets too many minutes in Denver and he is inconsistent but if his minutes were lowered than his production would be higher as he wouldnt get lost in the thrill of game while Chauncey and Carmelo shoot 75% of the time. if he was in a team with 4 wing players then he'd be ok IMO.

@Rongata; I like the Hornets

@Rongata; I like the Hornets suggestion, they really need someone who can score and break down the opposition defense. If Chris Paul can't tap his potential then nobody can.

Talented But

Talented, but horribly inconsistent and the guy has terrible judgement. I don't think any of his NBA coaches have been too keen on him. Every team he has been on has wanted to trade him. The Nuggets have been wanting to trade him at least since last year. Whoever suggested the Bulls, I see how he fits, but despite the kid being talented and young they basically gave him away before he ever got the chance to play with them. JR Smith traded for Howard Eisley and 2 second rounders. His talent along should have dictated a first rounder. Anyways, back to the bad judgement. off of the top of my head he was in a wreckless driving incident that killed a friend, he got in trouble with the NBA for posting gang related tweets and he tried to choke a guy in a scrimmage because he was playing him physical. I feel sorry for the team that ends up with this cancer. He may have a few big games for you, but when things go bad with him they will likely go really bad.

The Bulls traded for him two

The Bulls traded for him two years ago and then promptly traded him away, Bulls front office doesn't want him.

My T-Wolves could sure use a

My T-Wolves could sure use a guy of JR Smith's capabilities. We need someone who can score with relative ease and low and behold, we also need a real SG. Brewer, Johnson, and Webster are all better served as SFs in my opinion, especially on a team that is young and wants to run alot. JR could either start or give us instant O off the bench, but either way he would be a great fit in Minny. His D is far from great, but it is not nearly as bad as many claim. He is improving to some extent in regards to that aspect of his game.

Traded

Somewhere, but I do not see Denver resigning him. JR is a streaky shooter and at times explosive scorer, but his all-around game seems to be missing something. JR also seems to really have a cocky attitude, that is not always backed up by his play. Last year for instance, he shot .406 from the field and .338 from 3, and for someone seen as a 3 point specialist, that is quite below average. It just seems like he has yet to get beyond a certain point as a player and prove to be someone you can use for 36 minutes per game and win with consistently. He had that crazy game against Sacramento a couple years ago, when they were up by like 40 points where he scored 11 3 pointers, and he can have some big games at times, but he is never really consistent. I have no problem with him not being a starter for Denver, as I think it is a good idea to have a scorer come in with your second unit, but JR has never really made himself into the player that many thought could be one of the better talents at 2 guard in the league. Judging by the trade the Bulls made for him to the Nuggets in the first place, they must have seen something they did not like. But, lets put it this way, JR Smith is definitely not one of the reasons Melo wants to stay in Denver. If anything, JR is one of the reasons Melo probably sees Denver as a sinking ship. JR is still only 25 years old, but is he going to get any better than he is right now? Is he a good third scoring option? Signs seem to point to no. He could very well be traded with Carmelo, but if he is expect his role to be either similar or reduced. If he just ends up going to a team willing to take a gamble on a somewhat volatile but talented SG, than he could maybe increase his numbers, but I do not see him as one of the better all-around SG's in the league. Denver to me was always a team of fake tough guys, and to me, JR Smith and Kenyon Martin were the ringleaders of that Mantra. Both have tremendous talent and play with an edge, but they both leave you wanting much more than what they are giving you night after night.
