B FreeParticipantWhy because he is ballin some former college guys and a few current players. Slby had his chance to prove his value in college, he was drafted where he should have been without production or elite size.

i’m jus so offendedParticipantI really like that he ended up in Memphis, those guys will be able to motivate him, maybe Tony Allen can help him learn how to play good D but to me the biggest thing for Josh is being able to bring it every night, building up that confidence and getting that jumper down…he’s got some of the best potential in this draft, Hollins is a really good coach and his staff will work with him but ultimately Josh has to look within if he wants to make it

NJHooper95ParticipantThis guy could be the steal of the draft. He had a subpar year a kansas, but Jrue Holiday also had a less than impressive season at UCLA and now he looks very promising. Selby is an elite level athlete at the guard spot, and if he can become more of a 1 than a 2 then he becomes that much more valuable.

JNixonParticipantHe’s not nearly as explosive as Derrick Rose. He’s not Jrue Holiday and didn’t have his time taken by a Sr. All-American. He’s not going to make GM’s say "why’d we pass on him." He’s Josh Selby, a 6’3 SG who couldn’t take time from Tyrel Reed and Brady Morningstar

ilike.panochasParticipantKansas tried to play him at PG which was a mistake, he clearly is a SG. When he attacks, he looks to score rather than dish, and when asked to play PG, he had to adjust his game and relied more on his jumpshot and attacked less. I can’t see him being an NBA PG at all, he wilbe a SG with a chance to be decent-good.

MagikKnickParticipantHes intruiging, he has the physical tools, i dont think he’ll be great or anything, I see him as a Lou Will, JBayless type, typical undersized SG, thats quick and can score, but the DRose, JWall, MEllis, Westbrook, those comparisons gotta stop. Johnny ChillSelby is a poor man’s Monta Ellis.
Monta work his butt off the get to where he is at today.
If Josh wants to prove every team for passing on him, he better put in work like Monta.
Side note: Why do the Warriors find some nice 2nd round players (Ellis, Arenas, and Lim), but a lot of lottery bust (Fuller, Foyle, Rozier, Dunleavy, Wright, too many other players to name)
Jeremy Tyler is going to be a nice 2nd round pick up for the Warriors in 3 years if he puts in work.

ilike.panochasParticipantSelby is nothing like Monta Ellis. Even in high school Monta has always had that deadly mid range jumpshot, Selby doesn’t have any mid range game, it’s either attack or pull up for a 3 pointer. Ellis was also and still is much thinner than Selby and in much better conditioned athlete.

Johnny ChillSelby is more of a SG thats why I compare him closer to Ellis, while Bayless is more of a PG.
None the less, Selby has a lot to prove getting drafted in the 2nd round like Ellis. Bayless was a lottery pick.

I was comparing Selby to Ellis because they are both undersize SG, drafted in the 2nd round.

FritzParticipantTyshawn Taylor was the point guard the whole time last year. And I just frankly think he was injured during the season and he has said he was never 100 percent healthy. And thats exactly what he lacked in college was his explosiveness to get to the basket during the year. If that is true, and he really was hurt during the season, it would explain him not attacking the basket which is his specialty, and could mean if he is back to 100 percent he really does have enormous potential. Just look at what we saw him do in high school. The kid is extremely talented and athletic. He is young, and if he figures it out could be a great point guard. I think he was definately worth the risk higher up in the draft.

ilike.panochasParticipantEllis and Selby’s situation are completely different. Ellis fell in the 2nd round because he was a high school combo guard, coming of an ACL surgery, even tho he set scoring records in high school, there was some concern about his knee. Selby fell in the 2nd round because he stunk it up in Kansas. I don’t see the comparison in their game or their situations.

You REALLY think Bayless is more of a PG than a SG? If he was an actual PG, I doubt he would’ve been on 3 team in 3 years like he was. He is clearly a small SG trying to play PG.

hiphopismylifeParticipantI agree with Jnixon. Hes not a better shooter than either Xavier Henry or OJ Mayo, and hes more of a scorer who can make shots; not someone who can come in and really sure up a team’s perimeter shooting woes. Fair or not, hes joining a roster of guys that made the playoffs, whose minutes is he realistically going to chip into?
Even playing great it’s hard to invision him playing double digit minutes for that team.

GottaFeedTheFamParticipantJosh Selby is a 6’3” ball dominating Sg whos a very poor shooter and plays lackluster defense, does that sound familiar to anyone there are 5-6 of these players in every draft and most of the time they dont pan out. I will say Selby is an excellent athlete with great explosiveness, but he lacks the offensive repitiore(primary moves, secondary moves and counter moves) to make noise in this league and I question his work ethic. Plus he is in a very crowded backcourt in Memphis, OJ the juice man had a hard time getting minutes and he is a much better and more complete player with prototypical sg size than Selby is.

JNixonParticipant"lmao..did you guys not see that during the playoffs ish smith was given alot of vasquez minutes? hollins will give him minutes if he finds his role.."
The Grizzlies PG spot is different than their logjam at SG. The Grizzlies PG spot is the weakest on their team. Memphis has alot of SG’s and even have SF’s who can play there in a pinch. Hollins might try and get Selby developed as a PG, but he’s not that and he certainly isn’t ready to play NBA minutes there. Vazquez and Smith are better PG’s than him, and Mayo, Henry and Allen are better SG’s than him. I very, very seriously doubt he plays much at all.

iguapops420Participant^^^ No need for name calling. Chill it out, that’s actually a good comparison. Nate is a scorer with a good vert who has the handles to play pg but nt the discipline. If Selby can learn a pick roll, that would be pretty dead on with their builds(save for height) and terrific athletic gifts.

kobyzParticipantif Grizz turn to not extend Sam Young and with circumstance of some injury, he may could find some playtime of the bench next to Vasquez, good contra from him and could make nice combo together for faw minutes.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantIf he wants to call me names, I don’t really care because his basketball knowledge is as limited as Josh Selbys minutes will be.

HitsterParticipantAs Rudeboy says, if Selby does prove himself then he may see some minutes but it will be tough to break into Memphis’s roster given their depth in the backcourt. Also with the majority of those guys being still relatively young then any opening wuill have to be created by Selby’s own ability or if Memphis do move someone. Mayo was reputedly on the block last season and if they did look to add depth in another position then he could be the bait.
But with them having made the play-offs this year at least Selby will be on a team that can contend to a certain degree and will have a winning mentality so that should be good for him.
