Looks like Embiid has had another injury, this time it was his foot.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/draft2014/story/_/id/11107087/joel-embiid-suffers-foot-injury-prior-nba-draft

The article says it might be a break but there’s no confirmation as to the extent of the injury.

I think this changes everything, I love embiid but the Cavs can’t afford the risk anymore. Take Wiggins or Parker. Wow just wow

this draft gets even MORE interesting! If broken, another injury would have to scare away some teams.

Appears Cavs are now wanting to bring in Dante Exum for a workout as well.  Previously they had only scheduled Embiid, Parker, and Wiggins.

Maybe they’re now heavily considering the idea of trading with Philly and getting Young while being able to select Embiid or Exum with the 3rd pick.

Even if it is a minor injury or a break, you cannot take this type of a player with injury risk at number 1. If I was Milwaukee I wouldn’t take him either. You combine this with his back and the fact that he has only played basketball for 4 years and you have a recipe for disaster. Wiggins’ upside isn’t much worse than Embiid’s to begin with and he is already more polished.

There is 0 chance that trade will ever happen even with #3 and #10 because Parker will also be gone at 3. Thad and #3 wasn’t enough to begin with for a team that is in love with Wiggins. Philly will have to take a chance on Embiid or go wtih someone else for their franchise.

Where does Embiid end up now? To Boston at 6 or Lakers at 7? He won’t be as much a risk there.

I expect a Noel like drop now. This is why you don’t just workout for 3 teams. Now a team has to take a chance on him without working him out. That is risky in itself.

We probably won’t see him preseason but he is worth it at around 5-7 area. I don’t see him falling past the Lakers if he falls there. I hope he isn’t as injury-plagued as he’s been so far he can be a very good big-man.

Yeah the big question is where does he fall now, if He falls to 6 or 7 do Bos or LA take the risk? It’s amazing that this happens so close to the draft, I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to happen A week from now.

It’s unfortunate, I hope injuries don’t ruin his career.

With that being said, Nerlens Noel dropped to 6th last year. Let Embiid drop to 6th this season, we Celtics fans would love to have him.

Ugh. I think they really wanted Embiid because of how he immediately impacts the defensive end and because he has the potential to be a star, but a star that doesn’t need to dribble around for a half hour before taking a shot.

That’s the problem with Wiggins. The Cavs have been conducting a large-scale damage control effort concerning the fact that Kyrie and Dion both like having the ball in their hands so much. Wiggins loves to dribble too. How can you add a third guy like that? Wiggins would just have to learn to move without the ball, which isn’t out of the question, but my goodness…Kyrie-Dion-Wiggins on the floor together when it’s hard enough for Kyrie and Dion to share FGAs? Maybe they’re hoping David Blatt can somehow solve that problem?

If this is a serious injury and it proves that Embiid can’t even stay healthy for one offseason, that changes the coaching search too.

Thats Wigins strength actually. Dude put up record scoring numbers for a Kansas team while playing with other very ball dominant players. I always liked him with the Cavs and Kyrie/Dion because of this exactly.

Not going to get in a grammar discussion with you. You made the same mistake in your post here. To clarify, Philly is in love with Wiggins, so offering Thad and #3 wasn’t enough to begin with even before the injury to Embiid. Cavs and the entire world knows Philly is in love with Wiggins. Now Thad and #3 really isn’t enough.

LeBron needs to get his butt back to Cleveland.  He and Wiggins at the forward spots with Kyrie and Dion in the backcourt.  They still have Andy V at center, TT as another power forward, Anthony Bennett at whatever position he plays, and then Tyler Zeller as another center.

If Embiid falls to 6 (Boston) then Embiid could be headed to Minny in a Kevin Love trade.

Embiid at 7 to the Lakers could be a guy to help turn the Lakers around.

Or, Embiid (8th pick) and Cousins as a twin tower combo in Sacramento.

If the Celtics have the chance to get Embiid then there’s no reason to go for Love anymore. The main reason they are going for Love his because they didn’t land that top 3 pick.

Is tweeting the Sixers and Bucks are now screwed because the Cavs will go with Parker (who the Bucks wanted) and the Bucks will take Wiggins (who the Sixers want).  Also reporting that Embiid’s agent Tellum is now actively trying to steer Embiid to Boston or LA.  Tellum also said that they will know more about the injury tomorrow.

What a turn of events.  This draft is going to be nuts (yar).

Would Kobe be happy with a project in Embiid? I think not. I think the Celtics takes him, move Rondo and go into tank mode or Sacramento gets lucky and he falls to them. This will make their #8 pick more attractive since they are selling it.

If he was to fall, would love my Hawks to trade up for him, which rumors has it they and the Kings are talking.

Let’s say Embiid falls to Boston. Trust me when I say if he falls there, Ainge WILL take him. He’d rather have a cheap Embiid than a double digit contract Love, with only one more year. BUT what if that didn’t stop their Love hunt? The Kings are looking for a veteran player for their lottery pick, especially a PG. Three way trade with BOS, SAC and MIN. Rondo to the Kings. Kings #8, McLemore and Sullinger to Minnie, and Love to Boston. Then the Celts could throw a max contract at Bledsoe, and have a future, young core of Bledsoe, Love and Embiid. Now that’s a good team.

Yeah, I think Ainge rolls the dice on Embowie and pairs him with Olynyk inside.  Rondo can run with those guys once the guys heal.  Then they can go with a wing player at 17.

I think Orlando takes a shot at Embiid.  He can block shots and score and shoot some while Vucevic can also rebound and score inside.  Then you have Oladipo at guard as your future guy.  Then you have the 12th pick to get a small forward OR a point guard.  Tyler Ennis could be a good fit, or Smart if he drops.

Seems unlikely that Orlando would take Embiid when Vucevic is already a high quality player and they really need a PG. If Exum is gone though, it is a possibility. Depends on if they like Smart or Exum better.

This would be the biggest smokescreen of all but could it be just that? If the Cavaliers promised Embiid the 1st pick, it would be wise for Embiid to be on a Cavaliers team that featured himself AND Thaddeus Young as we heard the rumors of Philly wanting to make that trade. Cavs draft Wiggins, Bucks pass on Embiid, Sixers take Embiid and the swap is made.

The Cavs should take Wiggins either way. If they do they might be able to get Embiid and the #10 pick which is what I think they would really want for the first pick. Embiid and Rodney Hood would be a nice fit in Cleveland. I like Young but he can opt out after this year making him far less valuable.

The Cavaliers have Anthony Bennett and think they are in play for LeBron.  Thad Young cannot possibly hold much value to them.

….similarly why its so unlikely they’d take Parker over Wiggins.

I think in the scheme of things, Parker is going to end up a PF. Anthony Bennett likely is a PF who can stretch the floor and won’t be able to play SF either despite having an athletic advantage over Parker. They have similar skill sets/potential at this level. If the Cavs have already given up on AB, they can take Parker and he will make an impact. They also have Tristan Thompson. Have they given up on him too? That is already 2 top 5 draft picks that play the same position in the last 3 years. A sure fire SF who can play SG at the size of Wiggins is much more valuable to the Cavs.

I think in the scheme of things, Parker is going to end up a PF. The Cavaliers have Anthony Bennett and think they are in play for LeBron.  Thad Young cannot possibly hold much value to them.

….similarly why its so unlikely they’d take Parker over Wiggins.

I think Sixers will take Lavine at 4 now. Big gamble, but its gonna be a Westbrook and Harden surprise. Sixers may take Embiid but its too big of a risk

what?  sixers trading down to #4 to take lavine?  they can just pick him at #10.

I wouldn’t touch him anywhere inside the Lottery now. Any team outside the Lottery having multiple selections within the round it would be ok for me.

If he’s there by the time Chicago selects, he should be their choice. I know they are going through it already with Rose, but he can come off the bench for Noah.

      that’s wishful thinking…

someone will draft him in the lottery and no way he slides past phoenix.  i actually think orlando would take him at #4 since they can get a pg at #12 either way.

Lavine is not a Westbrook harden mix, lord don’t get caught up in all the glamor. He doesn’t like contact and doesn’t finish well, he also does have westbrooks strength or suddenness nor hardens ability to get in the lane and draw fouls. He reminds me more of a more athletic Jamal Crawford and still Crawford handles are serious. Why would you pick him at 4 when you could still get him at 10.

Now we get to see just how badly the 76ers want Andrew Wiggins because with Embiid’s foot injury the price for the first pick just went up. If the 76ers really believe Wiggins is their guy and will be a superstar than the 3rd and 10th pick isn’t too much to give up. I’m excited to see what Hinkie does now with the 3 pick and the rest of the 76ers draft in general.

Cleveland is bringing inExum for a look specifically so they are prepared for this kind of offer.  That’s really the flip side.  Yes its much less likely Wiggins falls increasing Philly’s dilemna, but more importantly its also likely going to be far less attractive to Cleveland to move back.

If the Cavs really love Embiid then they have a much better bet of him being there at 3 and they could probably pull some more assets out of the 76ers too.

…Or it might be a stubbed toe.

All I know is, the timing is extremely suspicious.

Craziest draft! I can see Utah selecting him just to get more assets if his agent is trying to get him to Boston or LA. Magic is interesting too. Philly really has to give up 10 now if Wiggins is there target.
