I know most of you won’t agree with this and I know it will seem like I’m getting caught up in the early season hype but I would take Jeremy Lamb with the first pick of the 2012 NBA draft.  Now, I understand the upside that Drummond possesses, but there is also a chance that he doesn’t pan out.  In all honesty Lamb’s potential isn’t dwarfed in comparison to Drummond’s.  Lamb could very well become the best shooting guard in the NBA some day, with great athleticism, FREAKISH length, perfect shooting stroke, superb work ethic, history of winning, clutchness as a freshman (the list just keeps going).  In my opinion Anthony Davis, Harrison Barnes, and Quincy Miller really aren’t on Lamb’s level.  However, it is not out of the question that those players could all turn out better than Lamb.  But what really sets Lamb apart is that he is virtually a no-risk prospect.  I truly believe that at the very least he will be a Richard Hamilton clone, which would probly warrant a top 5-10 pick in any draft by itself, and the most, despite many people doubting his true ceiling, I think he could become a more athletic Ray Allen.  When you watch games, there are few players in the country that at 19 years old can dominate a game, and I think Jeremy Lamb can.  Drummond may very well be the next Amare, but Lamb is too great of a pure talent to pass up.  His growth from freshman to sophmore year has been incredible, and one can only imagine what he will be like in a few years.

I absolutely agree with everything but I’m not sure I would 100% pick him over Drummond, I will wait until seasons end to see how each fairs. Although I’m not buying the hype on Drummond at all, and he has yet to really impress me, his potential is…scary to say the least.

Overall Jeremy Lamb is my favorite basketball player right now, and I would not be surprised in the least bit come June if he were selected #1, also I hope Bobcats get a chance to pick him up because alongside Kemba those two could be supreme backcourt problems.

This is a very big call but the highest I would take him has to be 2nd overall unless Drummond has remained at the level he is now by season’s end. That said, I think a lot of us wildly underestimated his long-term potential as a superstar prospect.

I know there’s a topic called "I hate Jordan comparisons" but when you look at Lamb’s story there are flashes of Jordan, even if his game isn’t at that level; contributes on a winning team during big games as a freshman after being underrecruited out of high school, has some success in the international game, then comes back his sophomore season as one of the best players in the country.

Just goes to show that hype isn’t everything.

People call him a mini KD. Even KD got picked after a big, Oden. Drummond is dubbed the best big since Oden, so its hard to see that happening. I think Lamb is just scratching the surface of his potential so him in a few years will be scary. No GM wants to be the guy to pass on a big. You take Lamb he has a great career, but Drummond reaches %90 of what people think he will be. You wont be in the front office long. It would be nice to see Drummond and Lamb stayin at UCONN another year for the trifecta. Not a %100 but I’m not sure of any UCONN freshman to get drafted.

While we’re talking about UConn’s draft prospects, Shabazz Napier has been absolutely killing it thus far. He is already a superb defender, and he’s shown great play-making, scoring and rebounding thus far, even recording just the 9th triple-double in college history recently.

Does anyone see him as a possible starting NBA PG and where would be be a good fit?

You guys need to stop comparing this guy to Jordan..When he’s not even as good as James Harden right now…

While Lamb has answered the question everyone was asking, can he be the go to player Kemba was last season? And so far he’s playing better than anyone in college basketball right now..

But he still is a work in progress…Lamb does have solid fundamentals for a young player..And plays great off the ball..But Last year he averaged 1.4 free throws attempt a game..So he must become more aggressive and attack the basket more..He has trouble in insolation plays, doesnt have many moves and he hastrouble changing directions..A good defender can study his flaws and shut him down every time…His defense is a little overrated…Another thing is that he’s not that good creating his own shot off the dribble..

But hopefully he’ll correct those things before this season is over….He does have great upside, if he work to improve his weaknesses..I can see him going top 3…..But right now,i dont see him going ahead of Drummond,Anthony Davis or McAdoo if he decides to come out….

UConn hasn’t played anyone worth mentioning, they don’t even play decent competition till St. Johns in late December.  They’re first half of the year is all cupcakes and the last half is going to be when we see how Drummond and Lamb really measure up.

If im a GM looking for a franchise player with a top 5 pick next june i want Jeremy Lamb. Whats not to like? He’s a leader, Athletic, Great shooting stroke and the can put it on the floor. The only thing he needs to do is put on some weight and i have no doubt he will by this time next year.

I think his lack of passing ability (and current lack of willingness) will keep him from the top of the SGs (Wade/Kobe level) – unless he works heavily on it.

But I’ve been floored by how much he’s improved off the dribble. A far better prospect than I gave him credit for in the offseason

I’m not sure I would risk missing out on an epic big like Drummond or Davis but he is easily third on my list.
