Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThis isn’t a shock by any means considering he had barely played over the past 3 seasons. He did sign a deal with Atlanta this summer but ultimately decided his knees couldn’t go anymore.
Very good player who unfortunately will get overlooked in a lot of people’s minds because he had his best individual seasons on non-contending teams. From about 2004-2008 he was statistically at least a top 5 sg but he never really came close to making an all-star team. He will probably always be remembered best for the dunk contests at the beginning of his career.

BleedGreen808ParticipantSounds like he was dealing with some knee pain again and it was diagnosed as bone spurs. He was worried about his ability to walk as he gets older so he decided to retire. Can’t blame him as he’s only 34 and has a long life after basketball.

high floorParticipantHe averaged 17 points – 5 rebounds and just under 3 assists for his career, so he put up some numbers. He was an exciting player in his early years, and transitioned nicely into a 3rd-4th option type player after his prime. Could fill it up from 3pt range as well. He was a ture x-factor for the Suns during their run to the WCF in 2010 as well. He played great.
He never really used his elite athleticism on the defensive end though, which kept him a tier below the top SG’s in the league during his best years.
Also, I don’t know why but I always think of this highlight when someone mentions Jason Richardson.. ha! Maybe because I thought it was a douche move at the time, but he’s genuinely a nice guy

DolanCareParticipantJ-Rich would be one of the most coveted players if he hit his prime in today’s game.
A big guard. Superb athlete. And a threat from three…. Not the most committed defender but he could when he wanted to.

RUDEBOY_Participanthe was a borderline all star….he didnt have the complete overall game to reach that elite level….but he did have a few good seasons with the warriors….him and baron davis as a combination were just as exciting as curry & thompson, they played so well 2gether…that upset series against the mavs has to be 1 of the greatest playoffs series ever….
in a way his career is very similar to jr smith..it seems that both players have the talent to be better then they showed….both guys loved showboating..the perimeter is their major strength..and inside is their weakness…

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHe was a much better overall player than jr Smith imo. Similar physical attributes but better work ethic and bball iq. I wouldn’t even say his career was really a disappointment at all. He drew some comparisons to Vince Carter early in his career and never quite lived up to those expectations but had a pretty solid career nonetheless.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantJason Richards was a prolific scorer – he had 3 full seasons averaging 20+ points per game which is an amazing accomplishment, but even more than that he was an incredibly positive influence on younger players… Richardson has been on Phila’s roster since 2012 – when they actually had a good team – Richardson spent the last 2 years workings his tail off to overcome injuries & get back on the court. He accomplished that late last season & I was really hoping that he could play a few minutes a game for Atlanta b/c he deserves it… He was an incredible influence on the young Sixers & I wish him all the best in the next phase of his life… I know ball players are extremely fortunate to do what they do & Richardson really understood this, from what every coach & player says he was/ is a remarkable person, truly humble & very generous w/ time & advice for young players – hopefully he goes into coaching – he’s a great role model….

AdamJCallejaParticipantI think he was at his best during his run with the Suns and they were definitely a contender but fell short to the Lakers in 2010. He hit some big shots during their playoff run.

SandHaha….you gotta love it when a player like J-Rich does a crazy fast break dunk and everyone in the stadium goes nuts.
Then they pan to the coaches face on the sideline…and its as grumpy as a woman who skipped breakfast.
More fast break 360’s please!

cabbycabParticipantHonestly he had a much better career than I thought he would out of college. He was a poor shooter at the line and had sloppy handles. Ended up having some really solid years for my Dubs.

CynthiaParticipantI absolutely love Jason Richardson, in fact he’s one of my favourite players of all time. He was a lot like Vince Carter, he just didn’t really ever get much recognition. He was a very quiet and non egotistical guy, I just love players that can beat you with a drive or on the perimeter. It’s a shame his career has been cut short with injuries these past few years, I think he deserved at least one All-Star appearance.
I was sad when I read that he was retiring yesterday, but I also understand. I was pretty stoked when I heard he signed a new deal, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.
All my favourite players are retiring, or on the brink of retirement. These are sad times, and it makes me feel old. Haha
Good luck with the rest of your life Jason!

mamadouParticipantI liked him a lot with my suns.
And he liked nash…
As a sun he was a 48% FG 40% 3 pts shooter.
1 playoff run, 16 games, averaging 20 pts, 50% FG 48% from deep.
Nash-Jrich-grant hill-stat-Lopez….Dragic-barbosa-dudley-amundson-frye was a decent group, fun to watch, averaging 110+ pts in the RS.
16th all time in 3pts FGM, could have been a better player if he learned how to get to the line.
I’m waiting on a prospect compared to him in a draft.
