Julius Randle has quietly played some really nice ball the past couple of months. He’s upped his efficiency, he’s playmaking and he’s crashing the boards.

Who know’s what L.A’s 2018 offseason plans are…… but considering the way Randle’s improved they might just make him a decent offer.

What do you all think Randle will sign for this summer? Something like 4yrs, 44million? Who besides the Lakers would be interested in getting him? Maybe his hometown Dallas?

I really like randle and the improvements he has made have been very noticeable. He really dedicated himself to getting into phenomenal shape last summer and it has reflected in his play this year. He has arguably been LAs most consistent performer this season. He is playing with great energy, defending, and making better overall decisions. He is playing the best ball of his career and just coming into his prime in a contract season. The timing seems to be right for him to cash in.

Unfortunately, for players like randle, this summer may just not the time to be a free agent. There are a lot of teams still reeling from the bad contracts they gave out 2 years ago and looking to shed salary rather than take on additional salary. While the true stars will get paid no matter what, guys like randle, who, while talented, doesn’t really project as a star may find the market somewhat dried up. The lakers have already made it clear their goal is to pursue 2 max level free agents or preserve their cap space for next summer so it’s hard to see how randle would fit into their long-term plans unless he were willing to take a short or discounted deal.

Randle is also a strange positional fit. He isn’t really a pure post scorer and doesn’t stretch the floor. He is decent defending in space but not much of a shot-blocker. He is a talented player who gives you great effort every night, but there are question marks with his ability to fit a particular role on a contending team. It’ll be interesting to see what his market value is.

Randle is a winner. The Lakers have one of the best records in basketball since LaVar Bal said Walton lost his team. And the only big change on the team was that they put Randle in the starting lineup and gave him more minutes. He was a 20-10 player in February. The Lakers will miss the playoffs, but could become a 500 team.

He’s not entirely built for today’s PF because he can’t hit from outside, but he does everything else well. He even defends well now. I’ve never seen somebody chuck it from inside one year and be totally reliable the next year like Randle. His improvement at the rack is astonishing.

I believe the Lakers can afford to sign 2 max guys and sign Randle for around 12 million if they sign him after the max guys and no he doesn’t accept offers from another team (otherwise it would count against the cap).

They should sign him if they can. He’s the best player on the roster this year.

and not taking back any salary… and even then a few more moves would have to be made.

His caphold will make it impossible to get 2 max free agents.  They will have to renounce his rights if that’s the route that they take.

From what I read, they just need to stretch Deng to make it work. Don’t quote me though. He can’t be traded with that salary.

I also heard they can extend Deng for a year for 2 million or so, then stretch him. They end up paying him less per year, but for longer.

Somehow a lot of people seem to ignore Randle and his impact and improvement to this team when they talk about what this team has to offer talent wise. In the most recent thread here about the Lakers appeal everyone is talking about Ingram, Lonzo, Kuzma and even Josh Hart but very few talk Randle. Personally I think the Lakers will strike out on the big name free agents and need to decide if they commit long term to Randle or if they want to pay someone like they did KCP last summer for one year eyeing the next summers free agents.

What I see from Julius is pretty impressive to me. He is a good rebounder, likes to play physical and is a very underrated passer and ball handler. Unfortunately his outside shot is not falling consistently but this is nothing that won’t improve in the long run if he continues working on it. He might not be the prototypical PF of this era but on the other hand he might be the perfect small ball center in the right environment.

His market value could and should be somewhere around 18 million per year but since few teams have true cap space this summer and considering what the Lakers have to face in free agency there might be a very interesting summer coming regarding Julius Randle. I would love to have him next to Adams on the Thunder but this won’t happen unless LeBron signs with the Lakers and Melo wants to be traded there but I think Randle is the best player on the Lakers roster right now. Ingram might have a higher ceiling but right now Randle is their best player and It would be foolish to just let him walk and overpay for someone not named LeBron or PG13 since there are allot of indications that Randle will continue to improve into a very good pro.

I didn’t mention Randle in my thread bc he won’t be on a rookie deal next season like the other four youngsters. I’m definitely a fan of his though and have been very happy with his development, i just don’t see LA bringing him back. The reason I brought up the four players who will be on rookie deals is bc they are all solid rotational pieces at worse and have a very low cumulative value, which really helps cap flexibility short term.

He was a great prospect, i remember early on in ncaa season it was all the wiggins vs jabari hype, but randle was a very close third early on. Quite a few of us thoughtt the magic should of drafted him @ 4 that year.

Ive read him linked to dallas numerous times

As XRY says not a lot of team have salary space so i don’t hink a huge demand for him. Maybe Utah if they decide to move on from favors. Portland would be a good fit but are maxed out salary wise atm.

You guys are nuts of you think Randle will go for $10-$15 Mil. Have you been watching how much these guys are getting paid? He will be asking for the max and will probably end up with at least $17 Mil per. 15-ppg, 7.5-rpg and 2.5 apg in 25 mpg is outstanding production at 23 years old. Ibaka got $20 Mil per year and Randle will likely look for a similar contract.

Did you not read what the other posters are saying? There is a massive cap crunch this summer and there is not much money to go around. The summers of 15, 16 and 17 are long gone, when teams though the cap would rise indefinitly. There is so little money to be spread around that there will be many good players looking at minimum type deals. People will be shocked at the talent teams will get for next to nothing.

If Randle’s agent has any brains they will take the biggest, short term deal they get presented. You wait around this summer very long and there will be nothing left. I honestly don’t think Randle is valuble enough to even get 10-15mil.

He could very well be like Nerlans Noel and staring at minimum deal if he doesnt play his cards right.

The Lakers may like to resign him but if they want to sign a couple of max guys to retain him and any other FAs may be hard. A lot will depend on if another team signs him to a deal and the Lakers have to match it and may not want to use up a lot of possible FA budget.

They could run the risk of not getting the FAs they were after and losing Randle too but on the flip side may not want to overpay Randle and take up cap space for say the 2019 FA class.

As regards Deng I think they can stretch his contract over double the amount remaining and one more year, so 2 years remaining can be spread over 5 years or 1 year remaining over 3. I don’t think they can still count this year as then they could do it over 7 years as I felt they would have done it by now.

If stretched over 5 years then its about $7.35 million a year but they get an extra $10 million plus cap space this summer.

Dallas are rumoured to be looking at Randle and having not had Noel not take up a long term offer last summer may well take a good look at Randle. Barnes, Smith, Randle and whoever they draft would be a decent core. Chicago also have notable cap space but if they draft a big this year their frontcourt will be fairly full.

A lot could depend who drafts who as to which teams might make Randle an offer.

Only way Laker sign him is if they strike out in Free agency again.
