RUDEBOY_ParticipantPortland center Greg Oden the number 1 overall pick of the 2007 draft will be a Restricted Free Agent next Summer.. His agent Bill Duffy of BDA Sports told FanHouse.com that his client will not sign a contract extension by monday’s Nov. 1st deadline..Oden will be the 1st number overall pick not to sign an extension by his 3rd year since Kwame Brown drafted number by Washington in 2001 became a restricted free agent in 2005..Oden has played a total of 82 games in 3 injury riddled seasons..Duffy called it a mutual agreement between Oden’s camp & the Blazers..Duffy said what Oden has done so far is incomplete..He still has alot to do..
Can Portland afford to keep him if some team offer him a large deal?

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThis is sad. Maybe he needs to get out of Portland.
If he wants to…I fully welcome him to New York

Mr. 19134ParticipantOden is going to get offered an enormous amount of money if he proves he can be healthy this year by some team just so Portland can’t match despite his injury history.

joecheck88Participanti think its just a situation where portland doesnt want to bid against themselves. is it risky? yes, but why give him a 10mil a year extension to a guy that is super injury prone. let other teams make offers and match if you have to. this doesnt mean he is out of portland, to me it just means portland doesnt know how much worth an injury plagued seven footer with a ton of potential is worth on the market. and to be fair, who does?
smart move, they arent just going to lose him.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantEven if Greg gets hurt…He’s not gonna get less then 20 mil on open market IMO.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI don’t think Oden will ever be a star. I don’t think he will ever play 82 games in a season but I would love to have him on my team as a rebounder.
I’m trading for him in 2k right now lol

stanford hoopsSmart move. Just like with okc and green. Let the market determine his value and since there will be a change to the players salaries after this year they won’t have to pay a great amount. They will pay alot less by not signing him now. Smart move

TyroberParticipantIf Oden has a good healthy season and dominates a team out there will give him a max deal. I pray he stays healthy and earns the big contract he will end up getting
