juves4783Participantjust read an article on insider about the nba draft stock watch. it was published a couple days ago so not sure if anyone posted it. to summarize their comments though…
d’angelo russell – russell has best chance of being the #5 prospect after okafor, mudiay, towns and porzingis based on his play. scouts seee him as a point guard with one scout saying "he could be a james harden-type player at the next level". up to #6 on their top 100.
justise winslow – his stock is dropping after poor performance in conference play. he’s shooting 12.5% on 2 pt. jumpers which is lowest among top draft prospects. shooting is drawing comparisons to mgk. down to #11 on their board.
charis levert – the news of injury and team play has hurt his stock but they feel he’s in the 25-35 range if he does stay. they think his stress fracture would be ready for the combine and he could move up with a good performance. he also has a weak sg draft class going for him. he’s at 30 on their board.
jake layman – recent play has raised eyes. drawing comparisons to chandler parsons and trevor ariza as a guy that is athletic and can knock down 3s. at #40…
melo trimble – giving tyus jones a run for money for best freshman pg. bubble prospect because scouts see him more as a combo guard. will draw interest late 1st though. #43.
rakeem christmas – just blowing up this year after being a highly regarded high school product that turned in 3 insignifant years prior. the fact he’s putting up numbers without much support is raising eyes. scouts don’t like his age (23) but they think it’s offset with his size and athleticism. one scout quotes "he’s really improved and at his size and with his physical tools, i think he’s worth a risk in the late 20s or 30s." currently at #50.

OhCanada-ParticipantI think Christmas should be much higher. 50 is way too low. He should be in the 15-25 range in my opinion.
Nice to see Russell getting some respect but James Harden is a tough comparison. He is a top 5 player in the league. If you truly believe he has t h at kind of upside he should be in the conversation for 1st overall which isn’t too far out of the realm of possibility.
No word on Looney? How is he being ranked?

ipowersParticipantChristmas is already 23 years old dominating basically a bunch of teenagers because of how young college basketball is these days. He’s also only done it for 1 year and scouts are always leary of guys who are 1 year wonders. Again, for the 1 millionth time. Nobody is saying Russell has that kind of upside. He just has some similarities in his game. People please stop takng these comparisons so literally.

ChewyParticipantcould be the next Parsons or could be the next Joe Alexander. Whatever team drafts him will be taking a risk.

machu46ParticipantI haven’t seen Layman this year, but I always thought he was a very good shooter, whereas Alexander was pretty much a non-existent shooter. Alexander was also insanely athletic, whereas I feel like Layman is just pretty athletic, but I might be wrong on that.

Jco4ParticipantChristmas won’t go until late 2nd based on his age and he might even go undrafted, I see him as a guy who makes a roster through workouts. Hopefully I’m wrong but wish him all the best.

rileymcshea3ParticipantMan I love D’Angelo Russell, so crafty and smooth. Reminds me of a taller/longer Goran Dragic. He can hit jumpers all day or slither his way to the paint and finish with an array of moves or find the open man if some one decides to help off their man.
