So I look at the roster and wonder what this team will look like in 2017/18 season, I imagine the starters will be:

    C. Turner
    PF. Sabonis
    SF. Robinson
    SG. Oladipo
    PG. Stephenson
Bench: T.Young, J.Young, Leaf, Anigbogu, Jefferson, Ellis, Sumner

I’m excited for the 2018 draft put it that way and would’ve liked a pick or 2 for PG13 but at least it’s done meaning we should find Turner a running mate to grow with which I think should be the main goal of this season.

Not sure what the plan is but they can cut Ellis & Jefferson at end of year having an insane amount of cap room as Thaddeus expires as well. They will have Oladipo at $21mil & that’ll be it.

The guy I feel for in all this is Thaddeus Young who came to Indiana to win & I hope they trade him for something letting him go to a contender/playoff team. Would love to see him in New Orleans as back-up to Davis/Cousins combo.

Thad Young starts over Sabonis easy. Also no way Lance runs the 1, they either go out and get someone or they let Joe Young have a try.

I think Brandon Knight could potentially be had for cheap, maybe Thaddeus Young’s expiring deal. Could be a straight swap clearing Pacers front court and adding a starting PG who I think compliments Oladipo quite nicely and only makes $12mil a year and still has a lot of potential as a 25 year old.

Suns get an expiring deal and some vet leadership.

Knight, Oladipo, Robinson, Sabonis, Turner with Stephenson, Leaf, Ike, Young is a very young core that could develop together and lose enough games to add top 5 pick come draft time to be running mate for Turner.

I think the Pacers should deal Thad Young to the Nuggets for Jameer Nelson. The Pacers get a 1 yr contract with a team friendly deal, and they get a PG that can be a good veteran to a young PG that they can find in next year’s draft. I don’t think Stephenson would be a good idea to start at point. He’s more of a 2 or 3 in my opinin.

The Nuggets win in this deal too, as they find a viable replacement for Gallo who is leaving. They also get a veteran who can start and lead their young team. Then they can either start Mudiay or Murray who are both young PG’s.

The obvious key to this teams long term success is the development of Oladipo Sabonis and Turner . They must develop into all stars in order for this team to make any real noise in the league.

The Pacers front office blew it. Larry Bird should’ve traded Paul George at the trading deadline, but didn’t have the balls to do it. I’ve literally been sick to my stomach since this trade.

The Pacers need to rebuild. Period. Don’t be a middle of the pack team. Play your young players. Build through the damn draft.

Larry really started to hurt the Pacers towards the end of his tenure, but I have confidence that Pritchard can work the Pacers back into a competitive position.

I think we find a starting PG by sending out a big as we have an abundance of them and maybe sign a wing or 2 and just coast this season. I think we win very few games, but still have a chance to put a young core together and a high draft pick to be competitive in 3-5 years.

Monta, Lance and Vic are not three point shooters. Myles and Thad don’t help much there, either. I guess GR3 is the teams’ current best three point shooter. That is not encouraging.

They need a 1 and a 3. Two of each, just for depth.

And a plan for the future. This would be a good year to tank.

They need Michael Porter badly. Doesn’t make sense to overpay a RFA now because none of the options move the needle much for them. Gotta do everything they can to be in good position come lotto time next year.

The Pacers have a decent core to rebuild around and got the PG13 era team together with late lottery picks after the JO era ended. Kevin Pritchard made deals happen at Portland to get picks and I feel he can do the same with the Pacers. They still have Bird and Walsh to advise so there is a good brains trust there.

Thad has a player option next year which will depend largely how he does this year. Last season he only averaged 11ppg thew lowest since his rookie year so he’ll need to perform if he wants a bigger deal for 2018-19. Monta I’d guess would look to take the money for 2018-19 before jumping to a contender.

Al Jefferson has a $10 million team option for 2018-19 which could be a huge trading chip for Pacers around next year’s deadline or draft day for teams looking to reduce luxury tax. I don’t know how much if any is guaranteed but even if it was say $3 million guaranteed then it would still be a nice trade piece.

The idea of Lance running the point is interesting and certainly worth a punt if they are going into rebuild. I don’t know when D-Rose is likely to return but if it wasn’t until later in the year they could give Lance a run and if it didn’t work sign someone like D-Rose if he was free when the season had started.

The team still have about $30 million cap space and their money is a good as anyone’s so may at least make offers to younger FAs or RFAs.
