New York has finally embraced their 17th pick in Iman Shumpert. In his only two games, combined with a thin backcourt, his aggressive nature earned him plenty of playing time. I been liking him since GA Tech, but I can’t gauge him with some of his inconsistencies and rawness. What is his ceiling as an NBA player, and what’s his floor? I see him being a Jamaal Crawford like guard IF he improves his shooting and scoring ability. If not then he will be a Larry Hughes/Keyon Dooling combo guard. Shumpert is extremely confident when on the floor with anyone, including Melo and Amare.

He has to learn shot selection still. He is still the same guy he was in college, he looks great in the uniform and he is a fan favorite, but he’s has a low IQ and he’s not the PG most try and say he is. He’s a tweener who needs the ball to be effective offensively. In the Xmas day game, he had the same amount of shots and Amare and Carmelo before he went out with his injury. How can you justify that? Especially when you shot less than 40%. He has great tools and is a nice athlete with an aggressive nature, but he still struggles with his jumper and with making good decisions. If he corrects those things, which he didn’t do at any time while at GT for 3 years, then I will say his ceiling is as a Larry Hughes in Washington-type player. But he has alot to learn.
