ACCORDING TO MOST MOCKS AND EXPERT OPINIONS I READ, THE TOP OVERALL PLAYER IN NEXT MONTHS DRAFT IS KYRIE IRVING. THE NEXT 2 PLAYERS ARE USUALLY DERRICK WILLIAMS AND ENES KANTER. THOSE ARE THE CONSENSUS TOP THREE AS THEY DISPLAY TO MOST STAR POTENTIAL AND ARE SOMEWHAT IN A CLASS BY THEMSELVES. BRANDON KNIGHT WHILE VERY IMPRESSIVE IS SLOWLY BECOMING THE CONSENSUS FOURTH BEST PLAYER AVAIALABLE.

WHAT IF THE DRAFT PLAYS OUT LIKE THIS? ( THIS IS MY WORST CASE SCENARIO FOR THEM.) :

    1) CLEVELAND – KYRIE IRVING

    2) MINNY – ENES KANTER

    3) UTAH – DERRICK WILLIAMS

    * – ( IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO DW OR EK GO AT #’S 2 OR 3 BECAUSE THE POINT IS JUST THESE 3 BEING GONE BY THE TIME CLE PICKS AT # 4 IF THEY GO WITH IRVING AT # 1.)

WHAT DOES CLEVELAND DO WITH THE 4TH PICK?

( A ) – DRAFT BRANDON KNIGHT AND PULL THE  ULITMATE "KAHN" BECAUSE HE’S THE BEST OVERALL PLAYER AVAILABLE REGARDLESS OF POSITION?

( B ) – REACH FOR SOMEONE ELSE BESIDES KNIGHT? ( EX: KAWHI LEANORD, JAN VESELY ETC.) EXPLAIN WHO YOU’D DRAFT AND WHY IF YOU CHOOSE ANSWER B..

( C ) –  TRADE THE PICK? (EXPLAIN A BEST CASE SCENARIO TRADE IF YOU CHOOSE ANSWER C.

…. SHOULD RAISE SOME INTERESTING QUESTIONS ABOUT IF THEY REALLY ARE SOLD ON IRVING AT NUMBER ONE OVERALL.

THIS WOULD REALLY SUCK FOR THE CAVS IF IT PLAYED OUT LIKE THIS BECAUSE AFTER KYRIE, DW, EK, AND B KNIGHT EVERYONE ELSE ARE PRETTY MUCH LONG TERM PROJECTS OR ROLE PLAYERS IN MY MIND.

Take Derrick Williams 1st, and there is a decent chance that Kyrie Irving will still be there at number 4.

AGREED MEMPHIS, THATS WHY I THINK DERRICK WILLIAMS SHOULD GO NUMBER ONE. HE MAY NOT BE ON A BRON OR DURANT LEVEL. I CAN SEE HIM DEFENITELY BEING A LEGITIMATE STARTING THREE ON A FUTURE CONTENDER. HIS GAME HAS A LITTLE OLD SCHOOL TO IT.

I think you left your caps lock on.

Explain to me how Kyrie Irving will still be available at pick number 4?  There is no way that he slips past Minnesota or Utah.

If i were CAVS GM my plan would be like this:

option 1: Derrick Williams, Brandon Knight/Kemba Walker

option 2: Kyrie Irving, Alec Burks

Whoa, didnt really know that people were that sensitive to writing in cap locks…. is there something or some rule i missed? lol .. .. The whole point of the post is the majority of articles and mocks I read have Kyrie going number one overall to Cleveland. Follow me now, some of you are acting like your kinda slow so let me break it down again… IF CLEVELAND PICKS IRVING NUMBER ONE,and then Kanter and Williams are gone at 2 and 3, that leaves them with a combo of Kyrie and somebody like a Leanord or Vesely which would clearly be a dissapointment. Now based on what i’ve been reading, I am not alone when I say Irving, Kanter, and Williams are the only 3 are the players with any All-Star potential out of the draft in my mind. So for the slow acting people once again, my point is that if Irving goes #1, and Kanter and Williams go #2 or 3, what would you do with that 4th pick…  Anyone who is interested in commenting on that scenario alone, please feel free. Anyone else who’s just interested in just talking smack based on some lame ass "I have 1000 post and that makes me cool" entitlement, go smoke something and reflect on what made you that lame in the first place.

That being said i dont think there is and way Irving makes it past Utah who may or not be sold on harris. ( i dont think they are. that being said if i were to draft williams who is deserving of number 1 status then i would make getting knight my top prriority. ( they still r on the hook for Baron and sessions contracts so there can be a slow learning curve for knight ( i think he will surprise some people depending on what team drafts him.)

SMH at how Irving will still be around at 4.  While I think if they want to keep both picks…going with Williams first would be a good idea…I think that the best thing would be a Jamison/Carter type deal to trade up to #3.  Or use the 4th pick…which would be really good trade bait to trade down in the draft AND get a veteran player and perhaps cash.  I think Utah is more interested in Knight than Kanter, so Utah may be picking for Cleveland in which case the Cavs end up with Irving and Kanter and Utah gets Knight and something else.

see, here is the silver lining of this draft being bottom heavy if you will…say Jazz snag Kanter, trade down for 4th pick which they use for Knight and Cleveland’s 2nd round pick.   With the 32nd pick, there will be some good players available, like perhaps Lee, Singler, Tyler, Joseph or a low risk high reward guy like Richmond.

so to answer your question, I believe they are sold on Irving…its the 4th pick that they will give them leverage.

I would agree that Irving, Williams, and Kanter are considered the consensus 1-2-3, but that doesn’t mean they will go 1-2-3. I don’t see Utah taking Williams at 3. Why would they when they have Millsap, Favors, and Jefferson? Sure, Williams is capable of playing the 3, but they really need to address the backcourt more than anything. If Kanter is there at 3, they could take him to land a legit C, but I still see them going guard all the way. But all this depends on what Minnesota does at 2. I’d say the Wolves most likely go with Kanter, but would consider Irving if he were still on the board and Rubio remains non-commital. I don’t see them taking Williams with Johnson, Beasley, and Love already in place. So everything depends on the Wolves and Rubio. I think the Cavs have a good chance of getting Williams at 4 if they take Irving at 1. I doubt Irving is there at 4, regardless what happens. If they want Irving, they have to take him 1st overall.

I keep telling people that trading that 4th pick to Memphis for OJ Mayo makes sense…I know Mayo’s valuable has decreased in the eyes of alot of people..But nobody in this draft will be able to give you 20 points a game next year..And Cleveland needs scoring….

I think Irving will be an all star in a few years..Remember not that many people were high on Deron Williams when he came out….They said he was fat & slow…

If I was the Cavs GM then I would pick Derrick Williams 1st.

That isn’t going to happen though.  Cleveland is going to pick Irving.

    I think Williams goes 2nd & Kanter 3rd.

With the 4th pick for me its an easy choice…. Jonas Valanciunas.

I would be desperately scouting harrison barnes, quincy miller, Gilchrist, jones, and all the other wings in next years draft, where the Cavs probably be picking top 5.

Since I Know that one of my 2 picks this year will be a PG, either irving at 1, or knight at 4, I am essentially grading next years SF and PF crop against this years.

Personally I like irving, with an eye on barnes next year, Irving and Kanter is probably my dream scenario if i am the Cavs GM.

i think williams projects up to be a shawn marrion type of guy, but Barnes could be much better. hopefully utah and minnesota dont take both Kanter and williams at 2 and 3, but if they do i would trade pick 4 to Sac for a future first and either pick 7 or something else

If we assume that Cleveland will take Irving one then there is some logic in looking at Knight at 4 if Coach Scott could use him as an SG or maybe a James Harden type impact 6th man. Otherwise if we assume that Williams will probably be gone at either 2 or 3 and one of Kanter or Knight goes 3 then Kanter if available could be a solid option for Cleveland at 4.

I know they have Varejao but sometimes he is best used as a defensive presence from the bench and once Jamieson moves on then 96 frontcourt minutes could be split between say Kanter/Hickson and Varejao mainly.

If they decide to look for a longer term SF then Leonard or Vesley could come into play and Chris Grant could possibly trade down and still get them whilst acquiring further assets.

Also as Gatorheels said if Kanter is gone then Valanciunas could be a nice option and again a trade down might be on as JD Storm said above with the Kings and possibly even Detroit perhaps very interested in getting the 4 pick via a trade.

Chris Grant certainly has the most options this draft and the logical trade if possible would surely be to get the best two players possible providing he doesn’t use the LeBron exception and maybe 4th pick to get an established star and then looking to try and get extra picks in the 2012 draft or right to swap picks etc.
