Kobe will most likely opt out of the ASG and CP3 probably too, it just would be too risky for both since they are just coming out of injuries.

In this scenario, which two players do you think will take their spots.

I developed a list of players who I think are the main contenders:

    1. Goran Dragic – For two main reasons. First, his numbers have been incredible and he has been one of the main reasons that Phoenix is doing so well. Two, I feel like a player of Phoenix should be rewarded for their suprising season.

    2. Tim Duncan – His team sits number 2 in the conference yet they will only have one player in the ASG, that just doesn´t seem very logical. In a scenario with no injured players, I wouldn´t make a defense for his case, but considering the absences, Duncan´s presence wouldn´t bother me.

    3. Anthony Davis – The kid has just been lights outs statistically and has dominated the floor when he´s on it. The problem is that his team hasn´t even been close to playoff spot. I would understand him being chosen, especially since they are making room for young stars.

    4. DeMarcus Cousins – Basically the same that was said on AD can be said on Cousins. Has been as impressive as they come and his efficency and rebound numbers are scary good. If it was merely based on talent there is no doubt he´d be in, but the problem remains the lack of wins for his team.

    5. Serge Ibaka – As ridicoulus as this might sound! (Even for me and I´m Spanish) However the way the Thunder have remained a force in the league despite the Westbrook injury defends the case that they deserve another player in the ASG. They currently have the second best record in the league and the best in the west, and of course it is almost fully due to Durant’s monster season, but Serge has contributed pleanty too.

If I’m not wrong, the NBA commisioner chooses the replacements, and for this reason I believe that the only lock down is Dragic especially due to the fact that he is a guard, and right now they are short on them. The other spot will most likely go to Anthony Davis since the league is moving in the direction of letting young talent step up, and also the fact that it would be a treat for the host city.

Also who deserves to replace Kobe in the starting spot ?

I feel like Davis, as the hometown representative, will get the injury spot, and Harden will move into the starting lineup to replace Kobe. Paul…I dunno.

I was just looking over my list and I realized that I forgot to include an amazing player and a huge contender.

David Lee – He more than deserves to be selected in the ASG and probably the reason that I forgot to include him before was because I could have sworn that he was already selected. Lee has been a huge contributor to a great team and is one of the most efficent players in the league. I would even argue that he should make it before than AD.

I’m not a big fan of taking players just because they’re on good teams, unless they’ve sacrified a lot for team success (ala Chris Bosh).

I don’t see any reason to take David Lee over Davis other than the "good team" argument. Even though, I think most can agree that Golden State has underperformed. The offense falls apart without Curry and David Lee is a minus on defense. The great run the Warriors made in last year’s playoffs was without said David Lee

Statistically, Davis is better (besides assists), defensively Davis is better and if you buy my argument that team success in this case is negligible, you gotta take Davis over Lee for an All Star nod.

Two other points of consideration is the hometown advantage and the fact that Davis style of play fits better in the All Star game

Even though there are many deserving players out West to take Kobe’s spot in the game, I think the only 2 realistic picks would be Dragic (Suns are playing unbelievably well because of him) or Anthony Davis (#’s… nuff said). In the end, it will probably be Davis because of his great stats and because he brings the excitement factor to the all star game. Davis is bound to have a couple highlight reel dunks that NBA fans drool over.

Also, I thought that CP3 would be back in time for the ASG? I really hope he is, or else me trading lamarcus aldridge for him and oladipo is starting to look very foolish…

He has to be one of the most underated players in the NBa right now. PHX is still in the playoffs as of today, and he is the biggest reason why. He can score from anywhere, plays descent Defense, and makes his teamates better. It would be a shame to see him get passed by.

If they both opt out Davis and Dragic. The suns started off well with the Bledsoe & Dragic tandem. Without Bledsoe I think most thought Phoenix would start dropping some. They haven’t and they deserve an all star and Dragic deserves it. Davis has the numbers it’s in NO and he’d be fun to watch.
