How will Mr. Kardashian fare in Big D w/ Big D(irk)

Now that Lamar Odom was traded to Dallas for almost nothing (can't truly detemine this until we see what the Lakers do with these draft picks in the future), the reigning 6th Man of the year will have to find minutes behind the Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki, who averaged 34.7 minutes per game last season. My question is, what will the Mavs do about this situation? It's clear both these players need valuable playing time, so do you think they experiment with LO at the 3 spot and give him more of a point-forward role, or just let him play very limited time behind Dirk? Opinions?

He'll start at Sf if Im correct

why bench him, i believe he brings more in the starting line up then off the bench...Terry is the 6th man, Marion provides a spark defensively...Odom can actually help run the offense and takes pressure of Kidd to make all the plays/passes to team mates...I think this helped the Mavs stay in the Title hunt...Chandler's impact was vastly over rated, any decent Center can provide shot blocking and Rebounding...Hell Sam Dalembert can come in a replicate what TC brought to some extent...

Odom and Dirk can play

Odom and Dirk can play together...

I think this is an amazing pickup for Dallas.

I don't think Tyson

I don't think Tyson Chandler's impact was overrated at all.

He had a Kevin Garnett type of impact at the defensive end. Talking and communicating on the floor. Protecting the rim. Helping from the weakside. Playing great on the ball defense. Switching and then getting back to his man. He's overpaid, but his impact isn't overrated at all. Knicks will love him.

I think Odom will bring a versatile defender, but he's not as physical or as vocal as Chandler... Nor is he anywhere near close to being the rim protector that Chandler is.

How about the 5?

I think Lamar Odom can play down low at Center. He played Center for Team USA in the 2010 FIBA World Championships and did a great job. He's 6'10 or 6'11 tall enough and he can attack the basket like a Center just not a finisher like Chandler.

odom and dirk

I think these two can fit good together. Odom can play the 3 with Dirk at the 4 with a big 5 in someone like Haywood in a big lineup. They also can go small(ish) with Dirk at the 5 and Odom at the 4. I'd think starting lineup would look like Kidd, Jones or Brewer(play the Stevenson defensive role), Odom, Dirk, and Haywood (or better center if they sign one). With small lineup in they look like Beaubois, Terry, Marion, Odom, and Dirk.

Odom may currently be the

Odom may currently be the most intriguing player in the league from a versatility standpoint. This is a guy who has run point foward at times for LAL, and can even play center to an extent. He legitimately can play all 5 positions, clearly the 3 and 4 are his greatest strengths though.

Getting him PT will not be an issue. He has a very good all around game and is willing to accept multiple roles.

match up

It really depends on the match up and wether they want to play small ball.
If they play a team that that has as tall small forward as well (let's say TWolves with Beasley) the Mavs can start Odom at the three and use his offensive versatility to its fullest. If they play against a faster team with a really athletic small forward they probably have to start Marion at the three.

This off-season, this team

This off-season, this team went against everything they did last off-season.

Last season was about getting a bit younger, adding defense, and getting some heart.

This season they got older, added a lot of offense (Odom and Carter), and lost a lot of heart. (Barea and Chandler)

The Odom trade worked well

The Odom trade worked well for both the Mavs and the Lakers. The Mavs got a quality guy who can play starter's minutes giving them nice extra depth, he's not a like for like replacement for Chandler but will fill a vital rotation position and gives them the option of going smallball with Dirk or even Lamar Odom at C.

The Lakers get a nice trade exception and a possible draft pick which re-arms them to persue either CP3 or Dwight Howard. Personally I can see them going back in for CP3 and maybe using the exception to help take Ariza or Okafor and having extra picks to offer. They could send their own pick next summer, the Dallas pick and even another future first rounder along with the talent package if a third team becomes involved again.

Losing Barea isnt a big deal

Losing Barea isnt a big deal at all ...Yeah he was a great spark off the bench but he couldnt run a team at point and doesnt have the tools to ever be a starter and with Kidd getting old we need to prepare the Pg position for the future and Roddy has the potential to be that Mavs starting pg of the future and be better then Barea this year
