Is it time for G-State to finally develop a fundimental gameplan. With Don Nelson out how secure is Keith Smarts job. Will they start playing D in Oakland? Of they dont play a shoot whenever style of basketball how will Curry, Ellis ad Lee’s fantasy stats be?

I think they should play  simlar style to the Phoenix Suns with Nash and Stoudemire. Although instead of a traditional sized SG (Williams/Richardson) starting the combo gaurd can start (Ellis/Barbosa). The PF can be used with alot of pick and pop and pick and roll plays, including faceup attacks, and utiled 2 man game with the PG. Then keeping good role players around that are willing to play hard D, rebound and commit to intangibles without being big offensive threats would really help their success. Thats just how I think they should play and I believe if G-State really commits to playing like that this year, gets the most they can out of their guys and stays injury free they can stay near a .500% team. They definitely have some very good peices.

    What do you think.

Nelson is a very underrated coach..His teams always over acheive…

Those who say his teams never play defense..didnt watch him coach the Bucks in the 80’s..

The last few years he didnt have the best talent..but he put his players in position to succeed..

But his offbeat antics can start to wear thin on players and front office people

    ….

how will they play? i think they’ll play similarly to nellie. It remains to be seen if we will use our big men as, you know, big men. I would have like to have kept Randolph (tons of potential, couldnt get along with nelly) . I think the way the warriors play matches their talent level. We have fast, small guards, dont have post players, so it is essential to run and gun. We actually had a good team the year we "surprised" dallas and won 48 games yet missed playoffs. then like the warriors always do, they played favorites and blew the team up.

I dont think we’re good enough to win anything more than 30 (35 @ most). We’re not better than Clips, Grizz, we’ll see how suns play this year, but 10th seed @ best. Our bigs are skinny and flimsy (biedrins, wright, gadzuric, lee) .

i was never a nelson fan. He was defenitely not a defensive coach He liked gimmicks. When he was in New York, he used anthony mason as a point forward. He told shawn bradley in dallas that he wanted him to shoot jumpers and stay out on the perimiter. Every coach "talks" about defense, but the proof is in the pudding and 20 years of watching him coach he never did have a good defensive team and he used his personel in ways to exploit offense.
