Denver is not going to be under the cap regardless of what they do so money is not an issue, the issue is getting a team together that Melo wants to play for and win with. The key to doing that is getting a wing play that can lock down the other teams best defensive player while also being a factor on offense. Iggy fits that bill perfectly. All Denver has to do is trade JR. Smith who is a headcase anyway, and K-Mart who is an enforcer at best anymore. In Return they get Iggy and Elton. Despite the fact people thinking Eltons career is over it is not that case. He is only 31 and played 76 games last year averaging more points down low then both Martin and Nene giving Denver somebody to throw the ball too downlow.
Billups
Iggy
Melo
Brand
Neneis a very skilled starting lineup in the West.
Philly gets salaray cap relief after the season and an up and coming scorer in JR.
Jrue Holliday
JR. Smith
Evan Turner
Thad Young
Mo SpeightsThats a young and exciting lineup with building blocks to have a successfull future.

Mr. 19134ParticipantThis video is proof that Brand’s career is far from over just in need of playing some games that have meaning instead of sulking on a team going nowhere.

Mr. 19134ParticipantWhoever just gives negatives instead of commenting on the reason for the negative really either needs more education or maturity. But in the end I could care less about a green thumb or a red thumb and just want an educated discussion on basketball ’till the real deal starts up in the fall.

HitsterParticipantThe trade does work quite well but Denver may have to send a filler to make the salaries balance, perhaps signing AI to a limited guaranteed deal for the required amount and trading him to Philly would work for both sides. AI may be prepared to do Philly a favour and it could get him back onto their roster especially with Iggy gone.
Philly give up their best established player in Iggy but having been a lottery team with him last season and having traded Dalambert then they are obviously rebuilding and another trip to the lottery coupled with loads of cap space by clearing Brand’s contract and to a lesser degree Iggy’s does make sense. Martin can do a similar role to Brand and with a big expiring deal may bring them value from a potential future trade.
Denver are gambling by taking on Brand’s big contract but they get Iggy who gives them a major scoring option behind Melo and Billups. Also if Melo did move on then they still have Iggy, Billups, Lawson, Harrington, Anderson, Brand and Nene as a core to rebuild around and with Billups having a team option next year and Nene a player option then they would still have some cap flexibility to work with if they wanted to rebuild. Brand would only have two years left on his deal next summer so by 2012 he’d have good trade value and any S and T for Melo may bring an asset or two.

Mr. 19134ParticipantDenver wouldn’t have to throw nothing in because the trade works fine from a salary cap perspective because of Dalelberts trade exemption and the ESPN Trade Machine approved it 🙂 But this does make sense for both sides and it puts Iggy in the position he needs to be, somebodies Robin, and it gives Denver somebody that can guard the likes of Kobe and LeBron, and Wade better then Melo can. Brand is also still a better lost post scorer then either Nene or K-mart. He averaged more points then either one of them and would of had a higher shooting percent like Nene had he been the benefactor of all those drive and kicks.
This works wells for Philly too because it rids them of Brand and Iggy’s contract two players who arent making the team a legit playoff team, and it gives them JR Smith who is an underrated talent, but he is just a knucklehead.
