At first when Gm Daryl morel was swinging trades for extra draft picks for a potential blockbuster trade I was with him 100%, now with no deal in place and him having used two of the picks on forwards which now gives them 7 good forwards that will fight for playing time, to make matters worst he lost goran dragic who he wanted back to Phoenix but still has Kyle Lowry who he wanted gone and now he offered Jeremy lin a crazy 4 year deal worth 40 million dollars. You can’t say their going to make a play for Dwight because the magic only seem interested in dealing him to LA or Brooklyn, which leaves them with an unbalanced roster they have a disgruntled point guard and shooting guard(Kevin Martin wants out) a major logjam at both forward positions and no center as Marcus camby is leaving for miami or new York

I thought that they were going to make big moves this off season. With what they did during the draft and all. But they really have done nothing. Hopefully they have a plan and all these moves relate to making that plan work. Cause if not they are just going to be the same team they were last year. I take that back they might be worse.

Sad week to be a Rockets fan…

Oh yeah I forgot about that horrible asik contract I heard their close to dealing Kyle Lowry to Toronto and that the deal dragic signed with Phoenix is 4 years/34 million which is 6 million less than the one Houston offered lin Wtf Daryl morel is the new David Kahn he hands out ridiculous contracts and drafts multiple players at a position they already have set

Except instead of going after PG’s, Kahn Style, he gives them away and signs forwards.

    Just a note fellas…

Summer league hasn’t even started. Give them a little more time before getting too critical.

Well, Sam Amich tweeted that Houston will also get Gary Forbes, so tack on another forward.

It is like those list t-shirts only on Daryl Morey’s tombstone

    On the front

    Royce & Luis & Patrick & Chandler & Terrence & Marcus & Jon & John & Donatas & Diamon & Gary & Furkan

    On the back

Omer Asik, 3 years $25.1 million

Not sure if Daryl Morey understands the NBA. In the league it takes a Big Three or four man core to win. Get a superstar and a couple of all-stars. Add a glue guy at the wing or power forward who can defend, hustle, and hit a few shots. Then get a decent scorer off the bench along with some solid rotation guys. Having some extra shooters and extra big men off the bench never hurts. A cheap, veteran point guard off the bench for 10-15 minutes a game helps too.

Morey has done the opposite of that. Instead of having a Big Four core, he has built a team out of rotation guys. He doesn’t really have any shooters off the bench and lacks those big 7 foot stiffs that most championship teams usually have. He doesn’t even have a cheap, veteran backup point guard either.

I think Morey’s Plan A was getting Dwight Howard. He didn’t really have a Plan B. To salvage his future, he is trying to get Jeremy Lin. Not a bad move though. They can build around Lin and he will sell tickets and jerseys.

Lin, Lamb, Royce White, Chandler Parsons, Patrick Patterson, and Terrance Jones is a decent young core. Add that to Luis Scola. Then they have Omer Asik plus the Raptors first round pick at some point. If they can trade Kevin Martin for assets and picks as well as Sam Dalembert then the Rockets will be in an ok spot. Maybe they can get lucky and get a top 2 pick next year. Nerlens Noel or Cody Zeller would fit in great.

Regardless of whether they acquire Lin or not, I expect this team will be in full on tank mode by the beginning of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised to find this team among the worst records in the NBA next season with the roster they currently have. A Kevin Martin trade should be the next item of business now that Lowry is gone.

not sure why people are piling on when the trade deadline isn’t untill FEB. Good lord he has plenty of time to make moves and it makes more sense to wait so these young players can show how good they are and then they can get more back when its time to trade. Fans have to stop looking at things like its checkers and realize this is chess so be patient, everything doesn’t have to be done in the summer or even before the season

The Rockets have lost so many starters from last season.. Budinger was a starter at the beginning of the season as was Lowry and Dalembert, by the end of the season Dragic, Lee, and Camby were all starting.. There’s a good chance all of them are gone.

Now the Rockets have no Point Guard on their roster besides Shaun Livingston and our SG doesn’t want to be here with a rookie backing him up.

This has been a horrible off-season. I’m so pissed, I’m ready to move on from Morey, we’re not even going to be close to challenging for a playoff spot if we have the same roster. BTW bringing back Aaron Brooks would really piss me off.

"not sure why people are piling on when the trade deadline isn’t untill FEB. Good lord he has plenty of time to make moves and it makes more sense to wait so these young players can show how good they are and then they can get more back when its time to trade."

How can you showcase your young players when all the young guys except Jeremy Lamb and Greg Smith play one of the two forward positions?

"Fans have to stop looking at things like its checkers and realize this is chess so be patient, everything doesn’t have to be done in the summer or even before the season"

Morey took over in May 2007.

    07-08: 55-27

    08-09: 53-29

    09-10: 42-40

    10-11: 43-39

    11-12: 34-32

They now have a roster that has twelve forwards, Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, Courtney Fortson, Shaun Livingston, and Greg Smith with massive offers out on Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik. If I am playing chess, I don’t want a board full of pawns and knights. Give me a queen. Try to maneuver your pawns into getting another queen. Utilize your rooks and bishops.

Look, I like the vast majority of the individuals on the Houston roster. That said, I don’t want them all on the same team because they aren’t LeBron and play any position on the floor. If I am a Rocket fan, I would be upset to see that abundance of forwards because every GM in the league can see all those forwards and know that the Rockets cannot keep all of them, thus reducing their trade value.

Its not like the Rockets were going anywhere with those players anyway. The best they could possibly do was first round exit so i’m not sure what’s to get so upset about. And its not liek Chase was burning the house down as a starter. The Rockets are in rebuilding mode and i know some fans don’t want to hear it but its the truth. They were not going to contend for a title or even a second round playoff run as they were constructed, maybe some Rockets fans were fine with just almost making the playoffs or going out in the first round for the next couple of seasons but obviously the organization is not happy going that route.

Just getting Lin would not have made much of a difference either, it was time to start from scratch since no top player is dying to go play for the Rockets (even though Houston is one of my favorite spots to visit and players love going their in the off season they don’t seem to want to go their to play during the season)

They still could make a play for Dwight Howard but it would not make much sense for them since he would not resign with them after the season. From Orlando’s perspective it actually might make the most sense to send him to Houston. They can offer them a better package of players than the Nets or Mavericks. The only better deal they may get would be Bynum but I don’t think the Lakers are going to give him up. Orlando does not just want to give in to Dwights demands to go to Brooklyn after the headache he has been over the last year and a half. You should not reward that kind of behavior by sending him where he wants. It is one thing to sign where you want in free agency but he is basically trying to be a free agent while still under contract. If I am Orlando I don’t want him on my team anymore but also don’t want to give him what he wants so I would send him to Houston for a bunch of their young assets and let them deal with the headache.

The problem with that is Howard holds all the cards so it doesn’t matter what Orlando wants to do. If they don’t want to reward him and send him to the Nets and instead send him to the Rockets he can just say he won’t resign their and the Rockets won’t make the trade because they will lose players for nothing. Dwight can do that with each team Orlando wants to send him to. I don’t blame Howard because this is a business and teams cut players that want to stay all the time or trade a player who wants to stay

He is trying to force his hand to Brooklyn but Houston could still make a deal for him without him signing an extension and try to surround him with more talent and persuade him to stay. If he wants to go to Brooklyn the only way it will work is in a trade because they will not have the money to sign him next summer as a free agent after the Joe Johnson trade and Gerald Wallace deal. If Orlando caves and trades him for Humphries, Lopez and Brooks then Billy King looks like a genious. If they don’t he looks like a moron again for giving Wallace 10 million a season and bringing in JJ’s crazy contract.

I did not blame Dwight until he accepted his player option for this season instead of becoming a free agent. He could be in Brooklyn already if he wouldn’t have opted in. Then he was throwing around words like blackmail without even knowing what it meant. I am guessing Orlando said they would bring in better players around him and he signed the option. You can’t blame Orlando for telling the best big man in the game what he wanted to hear but when you have no assets to trade what moves are you really going to make. Dwight should have known better and not signed for this year and then all this drama could have been over. He is looking less and less mature for blaming Orlando for his mistakes that prevented him from being a free agent. I really hope the Magic do not cave to his needs and give him what he wants or this could start a nasty trend of players thinking they are free agents while still under contract and forcing their teams to trade them only where they want to go. Carmelo did the same thing to get to NY but Denver at least got some good pieces back in that deal. This would be highway robbery.

i’m not talking about patience as far as winning since they were never true title contenders imo i”m talking about off season moves. Ya’ll are going crazy because they haven’t made big trades when it’s only july and the deadline isn’t until FEB. They aren’t going to be title contenders no matter what they do so a quick fix that leads to a first round exit isn’t the answer. They have time to make the trades they need and its best to wait untill after the summer leauge (if the young players play well and i think they will) to make deals. Hopefully a player has a Randy Foye Summer Leauge and gets overvalued, Royce White and T.Jones are more than capable of doing that.

The Lakers are watching the rocet situation and roster very closesly and i can see them trading Gasol for two or more of their young players (White and Jones and a vet or add a thrid team). It’s probably more comlicated than that but i wouldn’t mind the Lakers doing it since i’m confident that Jones,White and a Vet plus Jordan Hill can replace Gasol’s numbers in scoring and rebounding while making the Lakers deeper.(depending on Jones and White playing up to their potential )

The Rockets have had assets and resources where they should not have been stagnant for as long as they have. They have made the decision to not build a team in this time, rather "stockpile assets" that diminish the value of each one because of the abundance and redundance of them. I do not see how it is in any way smart to give Luis Scola a long-term contract for starter money, draft Patrick Patterson 14th overall in 2010, Marcus Morris 14th in 2011, and Terrence Jones 18th in 2012. The team is not valuing those assets. It isn’t the train wreck of giving up two first round picks for Terrence Williams, but it is not much better. Nobody can convince me that drafting Nik Vucevic and/or Tyler Zeller in the past two years in not a smarter way to utilize resources than taking more and more forwards and putting forth a ridiculous offer to fill that need in the middle with Omer Asik. Heck, I really like Jeremy Lamb, but I would much rather have Courtney Lee re-signed at the shooting guard spot and Tyler Zeller at the center than Lamb and Asik. As big of a fan of Lamb and White that I am, I can argue that the Rockets don’t fall back this year. The Asik contract will prove to be utterly stupid, but it will be no different from when they thought Sam Dalembert and Marcus Camby could plug the middle effectively. It just won’t be moving forward in the way it should for a team that has had the resources Houston has had for the past four to five years.

1 year later he’s made Houston a New Contender

Harden and Howard were very good gets, no matter how you feel about Howard he’s a beast, Ball don’t lie…

Chandler Parsons and Terrence Jones look like very good role players, Donatas may become a steady player too, Asik gives them a second defensive stud down low, He may be trade bait as well in his last year…

The only thing holding this team back IMO is Jeremy Lin and his poison pill contract

They need to upgrade at Pg, Patrick Beverly is a great Back up, and Lin is decent at times but in a league of Elite Pg’s you need a near elite Pg to compete, unless we’re talking about Miami…
