If Howard decides to sign with the Rockets, what do you all think about the two teams swapping Asik for Derrick Williams? Williams still has potential and compliments Howard perfectly on offense. Houston, with the pick they get for trading Thomas Robison, can draft an nba ready big to backup Howard, ie Withey.
Minnesota, as far as I know are unwilling to match any expensive deals Pek may receive, and if he does get a big deal, Asik fills the spot as a defensive, shot blocking presence in the post. This also allows them to Draft a position of need, Sg, rather than a replacement center that many mocks have them doing. The following year $15 million hit for Asik is expiring just in time for Rubio’s extension.

What do you all think? Houston may need to throw in a future pick, or one of their young pf to make this happen.

Haven’t heard anything other than the Wolves are matching everything thrown Pek’s way. If someone goes crazy and offers a max salary then they obviously need to consider all options involved, including a trade like this one, but I see Pek being a member of the Wolves next year.

Houston won’t get rid of Omer Asik unless they have no other choices in order to obtain Dwight Howard.

Houston would turn down this deal in a heartbeat. Not to be negative but Williams like Evan Turner make more than 5 million and secretly no GM in the NBA actually wants them or knows what to do with them. Williams only makes 3 million less than Asik, so he wouldn’t help with cap space for Howard. Personally I think Minny would trade the 9th pick and Williams for Asik. Williams is as much a liability as an asset, or at least thats how he is seen among GMs. He is a guy that is destined to become a guy who pays out his qualifying year and become a unrestricted free agent. His last year is going to pay more than the deal will average that he would extend with. I am sort of high on Williams and I think he is a top 35 power forward. Asik is a top 8-10 center (higher in my opinion but for arguments sake). At only 8.5 million that a steal and would open Minny to not paying Pek at least 11 or 12 on a longer deal. I would take Asik at 8.5 over 2 years then Pek at 12 over 4, Pek is light years better offensively if you need a threat but Pek is not a plus defender and Asik is the poster child of plus defending. Pek is a better player, don’t get me wrong but at more of a cost over a longer period of time who is more injury prone. That wouldn’t be that bad but their whole team is injury prone.

Pek will get at least 11 million a season. Portland will pay Minny back and at least offer that much if not more because of need and vengeance.
