I’m sure there are better guys out there left to sign but whatever. They have a lot of bigs.

Shavlik Randolph had a pretty good 2 month stretch a couple seasons ago and then got injured. Lost for the season. He bounced around since then but if he can return to where he was, he is a very serviceable player.

Counting the unsigned rookies the Heat currently have 16 players.

    C-Ilgauskas, Anthony, Magloire, Pittman
PF-Bosh, Haslem, J. Howard, Shav. Randolph, Varnado
    SF-James, James Jones, D. Butler
    SG-Wade, Miller
    PG-Chalmers, Arroyo

Who is going to be the odd man out?

I’m not 100% sure on the roster rules, but can an NBA team have 15 guys on their roster and in addition have another guy (for example DaSean Butler) assigned to their D-League team. And then when they call him up, simply release another guy?

Or can teams only have 15 guys on their roster, which includes any players assigned to the D-League?

I know the injury exception stuff, so I know teams will temporarily have over 15 guys, but I was just wondering how the players assigned to D-League count as far as roster spots.

They probably won’t sign Varnado, which I think is stupid because I’d rather have Varnado than Randolph any day and plus they already have Bosh, Haslem, and Howard so I don’t understand that signing.

Randolph is a guy who was limited by injuries in college and came out of Duke early. Now, he just won’t go away. I’m not sure what it is keeping him in the league (Duke pedigree maybe?), but whatever it is, he must be doing something right.

Randolph is actaully a quite intriguing fluent, post player, he is very crafty and long, and moves fairly quick. His defense and rebounding should be questioned but he definitely should at least be the 15th man on a roster.

Although not signing Varnardo could prove to be a huge mistkae. I think teams will be scrambling to pick up Jarvis.
