Basically what the topic says ( http://chickennoodlehoop.com/2013/07/06/gilbert-arenas-will-be-the-third-highest-paid-nba-player-next-season/ ) If he doesn’t play in the 2013-14 season, Arenas will have earned $43 million without playing a minute in the last two years of his $111 million contract. But now I also thought about contracts that could bite teams over the next few years. What other players do you see being the next big regret when giving a huge contract? A few possibilities: Dwight Howard: back issues and immaturity make him way more of a gamble than one would’ve thought back in 2009. DeMarcus Cousins: another roll of the dice because of maturity issues. Eric Gordon: Hasn’t really been the same since his days as a Clipper. Amare Stoudemire also comes to mind. The new CBA has helped teams get out of bad contracts both with shorter year amounts and less expensive max deals given to rookies after their first four years of play, but it’s the NBA. Like in real life, no team is prone to bad investments, as they’ve happened to even the smartest of front offices. Not trying to wish ill will on players at all, but some are more sure things for good, consistent careers than others. Who else comes to mind as big gambles?

edit: lol, the subject looks huge when looking at the NBA Draft forum threads. Sorry about that.

Asik: His contract was heavy on the last two years. Depending on the CBA it could really hinder whatever team he will be with by then.

Lin: For similar reasons. His production will never reach what people hoped.

Derozan/Rudy : This is a homer pick here. But these two guys are fairly redundant and both carry pretty substantial contracts

The next contract for Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh has a lot of risk if they’re paid around $15 million per again.

Andris Beidrins (even though his finally expires)

Jerome James (I’d argue this one in particular is one of the worst in history)

    Kendrick Perkins

Andrea Bargnani and quite frankly most of the current/ex Raps (like Gay, DeRozan, Landry Fields)

    Jeff Green

There are a ton of others.

Thanks for the subject change, Mods.

And long live Potapenko! Not so much the Pitino era though.

Hedos contract was absurd considering his production after he signed it. He’s getting paid 12 mil next year.

Tyrus Thomas is getting paid 18 mil over the next two seasons, good call MJ

Joe Johnson, easily worst contract in the league, owed over 68mil over next three years

Yes. I don’t know why Joe Johnson flew over my head, but that’s a good mention.
