ORL used the amnesty clause on Arenas. Now, teams under the cap will be able to bid on him. If no bids, he becomes unrestricted free agent.

Had to use the amnesty clause when they traded for Big Baby.

Who would win in a battle of broken former all-stars……Roy or Arenas?

Too bad Isiah Thomas isn’t an acting GM for a team under the cap……he would bid to pickup Arenas and start him at the point……

Really don’t see any use for Arenas in the NBA anymore……VERY inefficent and an awful locker room presence.

Arenas just had a couple of MCL tears and he’ll never get that explosiveness/loosness back. And then he has poor work ethic, so the muscles around his knee aren’t as strong as they could be. He’s dealing with a stiff tight knee that I bet just drives him nuts.

He’ll never be the same, but he’ll still be able to play.

I’d doubt any team in rebuild would want Arenas although with someone like David Kahn you could never tell. Maybe he becomes an unrestricted FA and a contender takes a flyer on him for a minimum deal. Still he’s got a $62 million aprox cushion so if he never plays again he won’t lose out financially.

Miami would probably want to offer him a minimum deal , which he wont take..what else can we expect from the Heat who are about to sign Eddy Curry and have Kwame Brown on the radar!!! Desperate I shall say…

Arenas went from Mount Everest down to the Dead Sea in a matter of 2 seasons… Injuries and controversies have been killing his career bit by bit… Look at his stats with the Magic, 8 ppg on 34% FG shooting… 34%???????????? that is definitely NOT worth $18 million a year… damn right he should be amnestied…

Could be that shot-creator the Bulls are looking for? He should come cheap because there won’t be a whole lot of interest in him and Thibs might be able to keep him in check.

just playing… Arenas is done man… 34% shooting isn’t going to give Derrick Rose a big lift on the offensive load…

To be fair, he was never really given a chance in Orlando, he needed minutes more than anything to get his rhythm back but it was clear from the get-go that SVG had no confidence in him. Before his suspension the season-before-last he was putting up good numbers after his injury, and he hasn’t had an injury setback since as far as I’m aware. I remain confident that he could do SOMETHING useful in the right situation for the right price. Hell, I’ll take him in Boston if you don’t want him.

It’s a bit ironic that Arenas was amnestied when the provision was named after him. As regards what happens to him, if he isn’t picked up right away maybe he tries to get on a roster come play off time. He could look to go abroad as he is a big name but would he get visas with his criminal conviction and does he really need the money?

I think someone has to pick him up through the amnesty process. I think the highest bidder gets him no matter what the bid is. So even if you don’t like his game much, you could bid $500,000 and if that is the winning bid you get him. If he can play, you win. If he can’t you just cut him and eat the $500,000. Pretty much no risk except for the locker room issues and the distraction. But a team that isn’t really going anywhere this season might even want the distractions or at least the national attention. Local fans would be interested in seeing how he pans out. And, if he does return to 2009 – 2010 form, you’ve got something like a Jamal Crawford type player for cheap.

I still think some of these aging shooting guard gunners if they would just swallow their pride a bit could be good subs. You have to think that they can do something against other teams subs. The problem is these guys (like Iverson) still want to be in there during crunch time and they want to take important shots. They can’t do that when they don’t have the ability to break down starters anymore. But when other teams role out the likes of JJ Barea, Steve Blake, and Goran Dragic (funny, that three white guys came to mind) you have to figure that even a much slowed Arenas could be effective against guards with defensive limitations.

On the other hand, the Arenas of 2010/2011 was a liability. That guy just hurt his team when he was out there. Maybe that is just where he is at and that is all he’s got. But if my team were under cap, I’d throw in a $500,000 bid for the chance to find out.
