I’d take Gerald Henderson. Too big of a gap in athleticism. Just don’t see Tyreke as a PG in the league.

Henderson is ridiculous. Evans isnt a true point guard and even though he is more talented all-around, henderson is the guy I would rather have on my team.

I’d go with Henderson, he’s a poor man’s Dwyane Wade. Tyreke Evans is a cross between Larry Hughes and Aaron Mckie.

Look at the Tigers, they lost 3 people to the NBA and only got Evans this year. He is running the point and taking them to a top 5 ranking. He can shot the 3 ball and finish at the rim anytime he wants to.

Even though I think Henderson is a freak. I will take Evans… he has been very good as a freshman.

Aaron Mckie and Larry Hughes??? are you blind. More like D-Wade and OJ Mayo. Look i am a UofL fan and we lost on the recruiting trail to Memphis for Reke, just like D wagner(father Milt hooped at the ville, landed coaching gig with Calipari) I despise Memphis. I bleed cardinal red OK….. Tyreke Evans is sick. he is 19. He has as much potential as any player i have ever seen because he is still so raw and his fundamentals are not very polished. With some maturity and playing time against a high level of competition( non CUSA…..NBA!!!) he will become a star. 17ppg 5 rpg 4apg for a 6’5 frosh PG? thats better numbers than Rose. Athletic freak……..Henderson is a poor poor mans kobe, he is a 6’3 maybe 6’4 2 guard. good luck to GH, he will need it.

      And we hate you too.

      Go TIGERS!!

Reke is the real deal. I don’t think Henderson will be such a good scorer in the NBA. He will be forced to be a role player in the league and his defense isn’t good enough. He’ll be a Dahntay Jones, journeyman.

Tyreke is going to be a good pro. But he won’t be a full time PG. While his pts-reb-ast might say he’s doing as well as Derrick Rose, he CLEARLY turns the rock over twice as much and isn’t even in the same stratasphere in terms of athleticism.

i agree with the larry hughes comparision totally, gerald henderson is fairly athletic but i think he sticks out because he plays in dukes system, i think people hype him just because we need to have a great player on a duke team, the blue devils are down, coack k’s recruiting has been down, they need more talent…players like singler and scheyer will win games but not titles, carolina went and got john henson and dexter strickland, dukes best recruit is ryan kelly a 6’9 205 pund finesse power foward who can’t play defense..oh wait don’t they already have that player in kyle singler?

Tyreke Evans is so overrated he is a me first ball hog the only reason Memphis is good is becasue the have a good coach and play in a weak confrence they will lose in the first round of the NCAAS becasue Evans will try to be the MAN I think Evans plays for himself (by the way he palys point cause if he doesnt have the ball in his hands he doesnt no what to do on the court a sign of bad baskeball IQ)

Larry Hughes would be a good comparison if you are talking about the Larry Hughes who still at least kind of cared about basketball. You can’t tell me Tyreke plays as soft as Larry has since he left Washington. I’d lean more towards (potentially) a more talented Jamal Crawford.

not sure what all that has to do with the thread, but i love it! im a die hard carolina fan, dont let the name fool you, thats for football. Only thing is I kinda think Singler can play, he is a finesse player but he isnt soft and way better than Kelly will ever be, he is the exact kinda player that I love watching Carolina woop up on. Anyways, back to the Thread, this is a real tough one. Hendersons a few years older, is a great athlete though and learning to be a player. He doesnt have NBA 3 range though. His off drib game is really nice, must say. Evans is doing pretty well at point, so is Memphis with him there, so I dont see any reason why he cant be an NBA point. In a slower tempo offense, he would be sick at point, smaller guards couldnt keep him out of the lane, maybe a team with an undersized 2 who can really shoot would love to have him, cuz he could drive and kick, and then can guard the 2 on defense and let hte undersized guy get the pg. From what I’ve seen, Tyreke is more versatile than he is a tweener. His TO’s are high, but he is a freshman playing huge minutes and trying to make alot of plays, it will improve. I’d take evans.

Right now Tyreke is the kind of player that needs the ball in his hands to have any kind of effectiveness on offense. That doesnt make him a good point guard, in fact Memphis had to change its entire offense to fit his game. I dont think Tyreke would have been a third as effective on last years Memphis team. I do think with some maturity he could be a less athletic Rodney Stuckey but he would have to fix his jumper or stop taking so many and work on his explosiveness. Henderson is way more explosive, mature and has a better jumper, plus playing for Duke you know his defensive technique will be solid. I think his ceiling could be as high as D. Wade (bold statement) but as low as Gerald Green.

If Evans steps up and dominates in the tournament like Rose did last year then I will change my tune, but right now C-USA doesnt present the challenge that playing in the ACC or Big East would for him.

I like Louisville’s comparison to O.J Mayo, they have similar games, but he’s not on the same level as O.J. though.

Keep it up…keep trashing Henderson so he comes back to Duke next year. That way we will be the favorites to win next year. I am a Duke fan and don’t know much about Memphis except they would be the ACC’s version of Florida St or Clemson if they played in a better league. They are good but playing in a better league exposes your team moreso than C-USA.

In terms of Henderson his biggest holes are his size, ball handling, and a more consistent 3 point shot (he already shoots 34% from 3). For someone with his type of athleticism & aggression, if he stayed the extra year to refine his game, he could honestly go higher simply because he would dominate the ACC and the NCAA. Duke would be an instant favorite if Singler and Henderson came back. And the scary thing is that he would still have an upside a la Wade or Kobe. He has shown the ability to put the team on his back to either win or keep them in it until somebody else decides to show up and help out. Don’t forget, people were ready to write off Kobe when he first got to The League. It took him a while to get his game together, same with Wade. Their ascension was propelled because of The Diesel.

G has the mid range shot that you need to be successful, the first step to get to the basket, the willingness and ability to defend, and the potential to expand his game. (His first two years were hampered with a wrist injury.) He has all of the tools to be a KEY player on an NBA championship team by his 3rd or 4th year. Put him in San Antonio, Utah, Houston, or Orlando and he would get major minutes because you couldn’t just guard him one way.

Lastly, although I liked Dahntay Jones, he was never close to the skill and talent level of Gerald.

And that’s because his jumpshooting/mediocre ballhandling combination has come back to hurt him more than it did in college. He’s found it difficult to play any sort of role offensively beyond making occasional athletic plays. With all of this said, he’s shown more of late and started improving these aspects of his game, and starting to utilize his mid-range game/pull-up jumper more effectively. With more minutes Henderson could develop into a very nice player, but Evans will likely always be the better of the two overall.
