Favors will be an UFA this offseason. Over the last four years his salary has been around $12M. In Utah’s system he’s a 12pt/7rb guy, where the dynamics (if he stays) make it unlikely that he deviates in a significant way from those numbers. He can guard stretch bigs on the pereimiter and holds his own inside. His greatest weakness is that he clogs things on offense due to limited shooting. However, there are signs of potential improvement there and he’s only 26.

What teams are likely to bite and how much do you think Favors will be offered?

Look for a better shooting and driving four.

Favors is a bit of a tweener at the 4/5 spot

It’s crazy to me that he’s only 26. Seems like he’s been around forever.

wow only 26, i thought he was older than that as he has played 8 season.  Favors plays best at the 5 spot.

If phoenix dont get Ayton and draft Trae Young, I think Favors would be a decent signing as long as they dont pay too much for him.

Milwauke and Phillie as a backup for Embiid would also be a landing spot for Favors.

I think he is worth around $14mill, but some team will no doubt over pay and will prob get closer to 17-20mill

He should be a highly coveted free agent as a Center. Comes from a winning program in which he has been underused due to the emergence of the best defensive player in the league right now Rudy Gobert. Has the potential to be a defensive anchor for a playoff team if he can stay healthy. Would actually be a great fit for Portland.

He hasn’t got back to his 2014-2016 form but played better again this season and was looking to develop a 3 point range. He was only 0.222 from the 3 point line but took 63 shots this season compared to 25 in his entire career before. If he can work on this it gives his game a nice added extra.

I’d think he’d likely stay in Utah unless they can upgrade there but otherwise Dallas, Hawks could be suitors if they miss out on Ayton or Bagley. Chicago with Robin Lopez in his last year who may get contender interest might like Favors experience plus his relative youth on their younger team.

I like the fit with Chicago. They were competitive when they put lout a decent roster this year with a guy like Favors it can bring in some defensive grit.

I don’t see Chicago trying to win more games next year, I think they’re still in tank mode

Seriously is that how they feel in Chicago? You gotta be kidding me. They did everything they could to just barely stay under 30 wins this year they’ve got the pieces to make the playoffs and I doubt they get a top 3 pick by tanking the young players are too good and competitive.

I think he is looking at a 4 year 48mil deal.

He’ll probably get around 4yrs/$60 mil. Some of the teams mentioned above are the same ones I have being interested: MIL, CHI, PHX, DAL, POR. I’d love him with Boston to replace Baynes, I just don’t know where they could come up with the $ for him.

Why replace Baynes? Baynes was #1 in the league in points allowed per possession one on one! He seriously overachieved and the team numbers defensively with him on court were elite

        1. What you just said – he overachieved. He’s on a 1-yr deal, he gives you 15-20 mins of effectiveness max. Why pay more than what you had to this year when you’re not going to get more than what you got? He’ll already be 32 come December.

        2. Because they’re trying to win a championship, not just be a good regular season team

        3. Favors gives you much more on the offensive end while still being very good defensively.

Since he is a UFA I would say he should consider the following teams if its all about minutes:

Teams that have a stretch 4 and can play him at his natural position of Center are his best option.

This means the following teams could or should go for his services:

Dallas-Dirk and Barnes at the 4 allow him to play C.

Chicago-Lauri M can play the stretch 4 role and Center gets his Center option..

Knicks-If Kanter moves on/they let him walk.

Lakers -If they start Kuzma at the 4 and Let lopez and Randle walk.

The Bucks as long as Jabari or Giannis is the 4 that is.

    The Could happen:

    Jazz.-If he does the Loyal

    OKC if P.G leaves

Would he be an upgrade on Randle at Lakers I wonder. Their asking price may be similar but Lakers would be using up a possible FA spot to get him?

Chicago I do like as Robin Lopez will be going into the last year of a fairly cap friendly deal which a contender could well look at trying to add him. Robin is 30 now and Favors at 26/27 is younger but still gives Chicago an experienced frontcourter.

I think a good fit for him would be Atlanta, if Budenholzer stays. They have the space for a decent offer and he could fit in well at center if they don’t end up giving Dedmon a longer look at or if Ayton doesn’t fall in to their lap in the draft. I don’t see him accepting any option type deals and most teams are over the cap too far to sign him and probably wouldn’t try to cut a ton of salary for a player of his caliber. Also think a sign and trade is unlikely. Wouldn’t keep Chicago, Dallas, or Phoenix out of the realm of possibilities either.

A lot will become clearer after the draft as a lot of the teams mentioned could draft an Ayton, Bamba, Jackson, Carter, Bagley etc. Phoenix have Alex Len as an unrestricted FA so that factors in too.

These salary estimates for Favors accurately show his value in most years, though his injury history is being underrated. He probably deserves a salary in the  4/$48 – 4/$60 range, but the market is absolutely flush with centers. Is he getting paid before Cousins? Capela? DeAndre Jordan? Would you rather grab a bargain in Noel, Kyle O’Quinn, or Dewayne Dedmon?  How about the upside of Julius Randle? Many teams in need of centers will be drafting Ayton, Bagley, JJJ, and Bamba, and they will likely get the chance to earn starting roles. Favors could be a bargain himself with this saturated market, I see him signing much closer to 3/$27, though I could see Utah signing him for a little bit more.

     Options for Favors:

Stay with Jazz, but I don’t think this is the best option for either party. Favors has proved himself in the first round so far and should continue to do so further into the playoffs. He has fully recovered from his injury riddled history. The Jazz however have shown that they need better spacing next to Gobert. They need a stretch four which Favors is not. He’s more a small ball five but can play a 4 if necessary. Jazz have used Favors as a back up to Gobert in small ball situations but if that’s where he truly operates best then it wouldn’t be in the Jazz’s best interest to re-sign him for 4 yrs at 48-60 mil as has been suggested and I agree that that is the market for him. I’m not paying 12-15 mil for a back up small ball center. That’s way too much. That’s what Favors will demand. The Jazz should instead use that money to find their stretch four which I’m hoping it will be Mirotic. (Pelicans re-sign Cousins because he is the better player meaning they don’t have the money accept the team option for Mirotic, Jazz should take advantage and go after him. Offer him a starting job and the money to match. He would of course accept the better offer with the Jazz. He would be stupid to accept the lesser offer that the Pels would be able to offer once they re-sign Cousins. This then does not leave room to re-sign Favors. Other options for Favors will be in next post.

     Other options for Favors include:

Suns as a better option than Marquise Chriss. Actually Favors and Chriss are similar players but Favors has more experience and is hands down the better player. Suns tried to get Blake Griffin last year for this same role but he chose to stay in LA because of more money which he was then later traded to the Pistons. It wouldn’t surprise me if Phoenix offers a similar deal for Favors and he ends up going there. I believe 4 years at 60mil was what the Suns could offer Griffin last year, but that is just what Favors will accept because he is not the player that Griffin is but is still a better option than Chriss, however it depends what Phoenix decides to do with their current coaching situation and Favors likes that coach if it stays with Triano or it ends up being someone else.

Milwaukee: not the best option in my opinion because they already Giannis at the 4. Favors could work at the Five but I would think the Bucks would prefer a bigger more mobile center like Brook Lopez next Giannis instead of the smaller more restricted but defensive presence that Favors is. Bigger is always better than small for a starting lineup. You can use a smaller lineup for a secondary option, but not as a primary starting lineup.

Another option is OKC if Paul George leaves making Melo switch to the 3, his more primary position but still secondary option to Russ instead of third option to Russ and PG13 where Melo is at now. Favors would have the opportunity to win more games with the Thunder but he would be more of a focal point in Phoenix. However, I don’t think Favors would succeed as being the focal point of the offense. Of course this could change depending on who the Suns get in the draft or free agency. They could get Luka or DeAndre in the draft and either one of those players would change the situation for Favors. Right now Favors would be the second option to Booker, but that could change depending on who the Suns draft. I think Favors operates better as a third or fourth option playing small ball 5 with some 4 as well.

    So options are:

    1. Suns, if they draft DeAndre Ayton
    2. Thunder, if PG leaves
    3. Stay with Jazz
    4. Bucks
    5. Knicks, if Kanter leaves or Lakers if Lopez leaves.
    6. Suns or Thinder are best in my opinion.
    7.
